Who Makes You Cringe?

I think people doing Ann Coulter a disservice when they compare her to Michelle Malkin. Ann Coulter is an aggressively conservative pundit who occasionally makes rude, inflammatory, or even bigoted remarks to make a broader point. While I have often disagreed with exactly what she’s said (I get irritated every time she calls Obama “B. Hussein”), I have the impression that she’s a very smart and savvy individual. She’s not going to get elected to public office, but she’s entertaining and informative. She has a pulse on the conservative movement.

Michelle Malkin, on the other hand, has occasionally presented good conservative commentary. However, as as my post on her homeschool hysteria exemplifies, she often veers off into her own form of moonbattery. Her commenters are worse than her in many cases. For instance, she went off on Dunkin Donuts’ spokeswoman Rachael Ray for wearing a black-and-white scarf. Apparently it looked too much like a keffiyeh. Personally, it looked nothing like one to me. But at any rate, a checkerboard pattern is widely worn throughout the Middle East, no different than argyle being worn in Europe.

She imagined an anti-Danish slight from the silly United Nations (when there very clearly wasn’t one). In other news, that might be the first time I’ve ever taken the UN’s side on anything. She also gets up in arms over the lyrics of rap songs. No one’s making you listen to these songs, Mrs. Malkin. You can change the radio. Malkin also got huffy and offended over a set of government-created taxpayer-funded flash cards that listed three very real benefits to citizenship.

Malkin just makes me cringe.

Question to commenters: Who on the right makes you cringe?

Ann Coulter

I'm sorry, I can't stand Ann Coulter. I haven't ever actually finiished reading any of her books because it's painful to me to do. There are a lot of bad, dishonest, hateful supid commentators out there on the right and (especially), the left. But Coulter is probally the laziest, most dishonest and least thought out one. I'm embarrassed when I agree with her.

I think you have Coulter and Malkin backwards.

Coulter at times makes me cringe, and I think that she gives liberals excuses to paint conservatives in a negative light.

I find Michelle Malkin to be highly intelligent, witty, and funny.  I think she is very articulate, and she comes across as far more informed and intelligent than does Coulter, IMO.  I'm not saying Coulter is not intelligent.  Quite the contrary - she is obviously a talented attorney and writer - I just think Malkin is more effective.  Her block is very witty, insightful, and snarky.  Check em out: www.hotair.com & www.michellemalkin.com

none

Except those  people who are aren't really conservatives, and those  who prefer to waste their time attacking good decent conservatives like Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter and their  other fellow conservatives instead of concentrating their attacks  on the real enemies, the liberals, socialists, marxists, positivists, secularists, homocrats, feminists, athecrats etc etc etc.

Ann and Michelle

Ann is extremely smart and usually miles ahead of those interviewing her.  She is very quick on her feet.  I don't always agree with the way she says things, but I think she sometimes needs to be brutal to be heard above liberal noise.

Michelle is a mother and does what all mothers do.  She is a protector.  You disliked your mother when she told you to put your boots on because it was raining out, but when  you grew up you knew it was the right thing to do.

"For instance, she went off on Dunkin Donuts’ spokeswoman Rachael Ray for wearing a black-and-white scarf."

So would you have any problem with Rachel Ray wearing a swastika? It's just a black symbol, right?

Michelle's argument is that today's clothing is terrorist chic.  Red shirts with Che Guevera on them are being worn, without any thought of what the man actually did.  Wearing checkered scarves bring to mind terrorists like Yassir Arafat and honors them without any thought for what they actually did.

however

The scarf  was clearly not a keffiyeh.

Therefore, she overreacted.
