California - Still A Tax-Haters Paradise

The rednecks who run the party may not remember it today, but the first sign that conservatism matters did not arise in Jerry Falwell's backyard, but in California.  Thirty years ago, voters in California shocked every person in power and voted for Proposition 13,  the legendary proposition which capped property taxes and set the stage for the Reagan Revolution two years later.  That's why your friends and families in other states are jealous that no matter how ridiculously over-priced California homes are, just one mention of the property tax rules under Proposition 13 and you just left them dumbfounded as Podunk County hikes property taxes several times a year with no restriction on depreciating property.

Thirty years later, now that Californians are essentially a dilettante population prone to swooning to every possible Left-wing fad there is, you might assume that they are itching to undo Proposition 13.  Not so, not so at all.  Proposition 13 is very popular in California according to a recent poll:  a whopping 59% thinks it's a good thing, including, hold your breath, 56% of Democrats.  The admiration towards Proposition 13 is deep.  When asked whether they want to lessen the requirement to raise taxes, 59% said no.

It's not a mystery folks, any Republican who raises taxes is going to find themselves in the shitter. This is a warning to Schwarzenegger that raising taxes will obliterate his political career.

Republicans in the state need to communicate how essential Proposition 13 is to the livelihood of all people in California.  Proposition 13 is key to making housing affordable, and preserving diverse communities.  The party also need to communicate that "bonds" which voters think is free money, is a stealth tax raise.

For Republicans Who Don't Care if Obama Wins

Are you out of your fucking mind?!  Oh I get it.  This will be like 1992-1994 when the bungling Clinton and the congressional Democrats led to the Republican Revolution.   Because it's that easy right?  History repeats itself just like that.   There are multiple problems with this rosy scenario, problems that if some of the lily-livered liberal-enabler conservatives have their way, would decimate two-party rule in the country.

There are no more Southern Democrats to moderate the left-wing Democrat leadership of Pelosi (D-Hell).  When Clinton won in 1992, the Republicans gained 9 seats in the House proving that the Reagan Revolution is still working its way in the South.  Now there is no more room to grow in the South.  Today, Dems already captured two Southern seats even before November.  No one is predicting that the GOP will gain seats in Congress and in fact, 2008 has the making of 2006 - the sequel.  THERE WILL BE NO FACTION IN GOVERNMENT TO STOP OBAMA WHEN HE GETS ELECTED.  NONE!!!

Mark my words, if Obama wins, conservatism is dead.  Not dead because its principles are not popular, dead because its primary vehicle to move its policy, i.e., the REPUBLICAN PARTY, will not be able to overcome the vast insitutional advantage that Left-wing Democrats would setup under Obama.  It took 40 fucking years for the Republicans to claim the House, 50 YEARS TO CONTROL CONGRESS AND THE WHITE HOUSE.  And some of you conservatives think it's as easy as one election cycle to undo the damage.

Letting the most liberal senator to win the presidency and the most left-wing Congress to ever convene is poison for the country.  This country doesn't need one day of Left-wing rule, much less two years.

That's why I say, you're out of your fucking mind.

McCain/<Insert Latino here> 08

Obama has never done anything for black people except be black and beat Hillary.  When McCain was voting to make MLK Jr. a federal holiday, Hussein Obama, according to his biography, was probably smoking crack.

One of the great tragedies in American politics today is the incomprehensible devotion of blacks to the Democrats, the party that fought tooth and nail to keep them as slaves and later on to preserve their second-class status.  Democrat after Democrat are elected in black areas without regards to the devastating effect of such stubborness to the inner cities and the southern Black Belt, hence Detroit and DC.

That's why this election is going to be about (Tancredo close your eyes) Latinos Latinos Latinos.  I don't want to rehash why this population is important, one should know that they are KEY to defeating the Left and its various permutations, but KEY to preserving conservative values.  McCain can destroy the fleeting appeal of Hussein Obama's disingenuous "change" rhetoric" by selecting the most senior Republican woman in the House - Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).

She is the first Latina to be elected to the House.  Unlike the token woman chosen by Mondale for VP in 84, Geraldine Ferraro (you remember her, Hillary's mom), Ros-Lehtinen is the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, i.e., she will be the Chairman of that committee if the GOP takes over the House.  Needless to say, she is the grand dame of everything Cuba-related.

She is to the right of McCain in issues except one--gay rights.  She is a passionate supporter of gay rights.  Which is fine, it mirrors McCain's maverick persona.

That's not all folks.  She also has Jewish lineage.

One problem with all of this?  She was born in Havana, Cuba.

Oops

My black friends are scared

The morning after Tuesday's primaries, I expected my politically vocal black co-workers to be off-the-wall now that Obama has won the nomination.  However, they came roaring to the office mad as hell because of Hillary and her non-concession speech.  She definetely bursted their bubble.

One other thing I noticed is that there is a gloom that isn't directed at Hillary.  They FEARED what the Republicans are going to do to Obama.  They discussed it in a matter of fact way that the worse is going to come.  They weren't specific.  Each sentence of despair is followed by silence.  My co-workers dispersed right after.

What to make of this?  I'm not a political consultant, but, it gives you pause as to whether the high black turnout for Obama should be a given in November.  Obama's denouncement of his black mentors, most notably Rev. Wright, and his departure of Trinity Church, his community and church for the past 20 years, is frankly, "selling out".

A House Seat Pick Up for the CA GOP?

Looked at some of the interesting primary results across California.  Here is one that stood out:

  Jerry McNerney (D) 33,997
  Dean Andal (R) 35,042

This is for the 11th Congressional District in California.  Both candidates ran unopposed in their respective primaries so the result above is stunning.  If the election were held today, Dean Andal would have unseated incumbent Jerry McNerney.   Usually reliable Flashreport.org is mum on this one as the entire site is obssessed with McClintock's win in the 4th District.

Embarassed to be Republican

Today is California's left-over primary election where there are no presidential candidates on the ballot and thus, an anemic turnout.  I almost didn't vote today.  I live smack dab in a district represented by Lefteopatra, the Horrible Maxine Waters.  In this primary election, you still have to specfically request for your party's ballot before voting.

For the entire day I was worried about that last part.  When I walk in there to request a Republican ballot, I know that the pollworker and most of the people in the precinct, almost all of whom are Democrats, BLACK Democrats, will sneer at me.  Walking to the precinct felt like going to a job interview that you know you're going to botch.

I held my breath, filled out a form stating my party affiliation (it was provisional), and before even I can say "Republican please", the pollworker read the form and loudly said, "REPUBLICAN" and then handed my ballot.  I stopped for a moment for reactions around the polling place.  You know when someone farts and you try to ignore it?  It was like that in there.  People fidget and glances fly into the nth dimension.

To my relief, I saw one other man in a Republican booth.  (All the booths are labeled in large letter by party affiliation.  You go to the one you belong to.  So much for secret balloting).  I did my duty, whipped out the LA County GOPs endorsements and inked some holes.  I can hear the pollworkers converse and they had some nice Afro-Latin accents.

Has it come to this though?  I know November's election will be very different and will have none of this partisan sorting at the polling place.  Not all will have the balls of steel to popup in deep Dem territory to risk asking for a Republican ballot.
