The end of European civilization

Europe, the birthplace of democracy, will sadly not last much longer in it's current state. Europe's birthrate is tragically low at an average of 1.5. If Europe continues along this trend Europe's society will suffer greatly as the economy falls apart from lack of workers. Europe will be unable to function as a society, much less pay for their lavish social programs, without a quick solution. (By Europe I am referring to the E.U.)

Europe seems to think they have found a solution to their problem. Here is what a typical European politicians would say. “What better solution than to import thousands of radical Muslims to do all the Europeans jobs! Remember, no questioning whether this is a good idea, Europe is a multicultural society that tolerates anyone and anything.”

Islam underwent a transformation as the result of Saudi Arabia's exportation of Wahibbism, the overthrow of the shah in Iran, and the near extinction of moderate Islam. Islam in the old world has become very radical as many of the moderate versions have nearly been wiped out due to the pressures exerted on the Middle East near the end of the cold war. As more and more radical Muslims move to Europe the country will begin to change dramatically as the postmodern culture begins to die out to the new Islamic culture.

Hopefully radical Islam and postmodern European culture will mix into some unforeseen tolerant brand of Islam. Sadly, this is very unlikely. A good contrast would be the collapse of the Roman Empire. As the Roman Empire began to collapse they were still admired by the barbarian peoples in Europe that would later try to recreate Rome. The Germans created the Holy Roman Empire and the Russians called their leader the Czar after Caesar. Radical Muslims do not look up to modern Europe; they despise it. Many of the radical Muslims in Europe look down on it as materialistic and rotten with no desire to be “European.” Whatever replaces current Europe will be as different as night and day from present day Europe.

The change is not going to be pretty. Look at the Balkans, multicultural society's tend not to work. Once the old Europeans realize that their culture is slipping into the minority or the Muslims realize their in the majority violence will erupt. Unfortunately radical Islam will win as they have the much larger birthrate and the fanaticism. It will be bloody.

Currently America needs Europe to help America in Afghanistan, Iraq, and to keep Russia in check. America needs to realize that Europe isn't going to be our allies forever or even another fifty years. America needs to be building relationships with new countries to slowly replace our European allies. If America doesn't it will be in trouble as it wakes up one day to face a nuclear armed, radical Islamified Europe.

You make a good case for the worst-case scenario

I can tell that you're a student of history and that you write from genuine, sincere concern about the fate of Western Civilization - and justifiably so.  It's been 30 years since I traveled to Europe for pleasure - which is fine with me, since I want to remember it the way it was when I went there as a child with my family, and as a teenager on holiday, and on leave when I was in the Navy.  I rely on input from journalists, bloggers, family members and colleagues who go there for vacation and business, and many of them don't seem all that concerned, which strikes me as both odd and interesting.  Are Bat Y'or and Oriana Fallaci just a couple of overreacting right wingers, or are my colleagues in denial, blissfully unaware, or are have they become liberal multiculturalists who actually admire the sociocultural and religious change that Europe has embraced in the past 30 years?  I'm not sure, but my gut tells me that my ability to compare the present to the past gives me a lower threshhold for that change than my younger associates, so I just smile and say "that's nice" when they tell me how cool Europe is.

Perhaps the most bizarre observation I've made over the years is the evolution of the term "racism" to include those who express opinions at odds with violent, radical Islam.  Daniel Pipes writes at length about this phenomenon, which has been applied to him consistently at colleges and universities when he speaks out against the threat of radical Islam.

When Rep. Tom Tancredo, a Republican of Colorado, raised the idea of bombing Islamic holy sites as a form of deterrence, a Nation of Islam leader in Denver, Gerald Muhammad, deemed his comments racist.

Note the evolution: As belief in racial differences and racial superiority wanes in polite society, some parties expand the meaning of racism to condemn political decisions such as worrying about too much immigration (even of poor whites), preferring one's own culture, fearing radical Islam, and implementing effective counterterrorist measures.

This attempt to delegitimize political differences must be rejected. Racism refers only to racial issues, not to views on immigration, culture, religion, ideology, law enforcement, or military strategy.

Certainly there is a culture war, a propaganda war, and a religious war accompanying the so-called terror war.  But you mention the Balkans, and there may be some good news on that front.  Take a look at Michael Totten's article How Kosovo Created Its Own Liberal Islam to see how the Wahabbists are being firmly rejected by European Muslims in Kosovo:

A small number of well-heeled Islamic extremists from the Gulf states have moved into Kosovo to rebuild damaged mosques and transform liberal Balkan Islam into the more severe version found in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. They’ve had a small amount of success with a similar project in nearby Bosnia, but they’re meeting stiffer resistance from Kosovo’s religious community as well as from secular citizens.

“We are working very hard to stop these kinds of movements,” said Professor Xhabir Hamiti, of the Islamic studies department at the University of Pristina. “These kinds of movements are dangerous for all nations, for all faiths, for all religions. We are Muslims, but we think the European way. I am a Muslim, I am a scholar, I know how to deal with Islam in my country. There is no need for Arabs to come here. I have no need for their suggestions, no need for their explanations. We created our Islam ourselves here, and we can continue our Islam with our own minds.”

This may provide some hope that

Radical Islam and postmodern European culture will mix into some unforeseen tolerant brand of Islam

I don't know if this will happen during our lifetimes, but at least a few seeds have been planted.  There is a lot of work that needs to be done by conservatives and moderates to nurture those seeds.  I'm afraid the liberals have pushed the pendulum of social change in a very radical direction, and it may swing even further before it re-centers itself.  I remain optimistic that at some point in history, the decline in European civilization will re-center itself - much like the decline of Roman civilization eventually re-centered itself in the birth of the American Republic.

I'll add to this some other observations (either from dkos or 538, don't ask me where my memory comes from!): people don't "lock in" their partisanship until they vote multiple times (two or three). So we're looking at a span of anywhere between 4 to about 12 years, in which someone makes up their political mind.

thanks for the math, it's good. cheap tiffany jewelry
