2009 Austin Tea Party: What Governor Perry REALLY said.

Greetings all.

The drive-by's are out to make Governor Perry look nuts for his speech at today's morning tea party in Austin.  I just saw an Olbermann segment on the topic.  They're taking Governor Perry so far out of context, it's almost cute.

While the drive by's are trying to portray Governor Perry as some sort of seccessionist nut, the fact is he spoke mostly about how Texas has Low taxes, a Stable Regulatory climate, an educated workforce, Tort Reform, and is the #1 exporter in the United States.  Don't let the drive by's fool you.

First things first, he's only kicked into high defense of his record in the past month.  My sense is that his polls will inch up and KBH's will inch down over the next few months.

For every unpopular (toll roads) decision Rick Perry is forced to make in Texas, Kay Bailey Hutchison gets a freebe (Partial Birth You Know What) in Washington D.C.

Decisions under tough circumstances vs. comfy Washington D.C. theory; what race does that resemble?!?

Most politicians are unpopular by a large group, supporters of the opposing party to be more specific.  You can't please everyone, so there will always be adversarial groups shouting out against a high ranking member of society.

I think it needs to be noted that Texas as a state is probably doing the best in the US right now. They have industry growth and there unemployment rate is manageable despite extremely tough times through the US. Some states are already in depression GDP catagories and many states will be there soon, but Texas seems to be holding up. I think the Governener can take credit for a bit of that.

Texas Governor Rick Perry is talking about secession. Don't buy it? Here's what he said(you can also listen to the audio I posted in an above comment):

“Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that."

“My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that.”

The Houston Chronicle corrects Perry:

Texas came into the union with the ability to divide into five states, not withdraw. After seceding during the Civil War, Texas was allowed to re-enter the union after ratifying the 13th Amendment. The 13th Amendment banned slavery in the United States and any territory subject to its jurisdiction.

UPDATED: Texas v White, a U.S. Supreme Court case decided in 1869, said Texas cannot secede.

Opt Out Clause?

Perry is implying there is an opt out clause in the Constitution and apparently believes the Civil War was only about slavery. Perry is wrong. No state has the 'right' to dissolve the Union and Lincoln went to war over that issue.

It's reckless and dangerous to encourage seditious behavior. Especially if you are a governor and should be maintaining the peace. What's Perry going to do when the crazies decide to take direct action because of his 'interpretation?' Of course he'll deny what he implied and crack down on secessionists. Dumb.

I have never understood why Governor Perry has taken so much flack in his home state.  Yes, he has had to take some unpopular decisions, but so does every Governor if they want to raise state funds for public services.  Anyway, I guess that is just  the nature of politics. Thats a job of every Governor to boast about his state's progress and achievements. Some of them or many of them would sound to us unreal but that is the case with every one. Politicians have to prove others that public has made a good summerlin foreclosures decision electing them.

about April 15th Tea Parties. why is it that there is only low taxes in texas.

I hate corrupt govrnent so that's the reason why
