2012: Mitt Romney throws Bailout Nation Under the Bus
Submitted by Cahnman on Sun, 05/31/2009 - 18:21
In his FNS interview today, Mitt Romney mentioned his NYT Op-ed from late last year:
Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.
While it never should have come to this, it's refreshing to hear Republicans talking about letting losers fail. Between Romney and Dick Cheney, it's almost looking like we can get the GOP away from Bailouts. To Paraphrase Rick Santelli, Governor Palin are you listening?!?

Too bad Romney didn't say that during the campaign
He wanted to bail out the car companies when he was on the ballot in Michigan
And you won't believe what he said & did/gov of Taxicusetts. . .
n/t
Oh sure I will
He said he didn't raise taxes. He did raise taxes. He said he helped the economy. It had the lowest net growth of any state in New England. It actually fell relative to the other states
Right now, he is saying that his health plan is paid for and that it covers everyone. Both are false.
Romney said "workout not bailout"
... in his campaign. I think if you dig up his year-old Detroit economic speech, you will find it is not inconsistent with his current statements.

And certainly Romney has been against the Government taking over or running these companies.
Romney will say anything...
..he has to at the moment. That's always been his trouble. He's your typical me-first politician.
