The Backlash is FINALLY Beginning!!!

First Christopher Buckley...

...then David Brooks...

...then Jim Cramer...

...then his approval rating went under 60% in the RCP average...

...then Maureen Dowd...

...then Evan Bayh...

...then Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson.

All this in the last three days.

Looks like the Obama backlash is FINALLY upon us.

What the hell took you people so long?

We are in bizarro world ...

... because Maureen Dowd and Chris Matthews are further to the right with respect to Obama's policies than are Peggy Noonan and Kathleen Parker.

At least some people are starting to wake up.

Be Fair

Kathleen Parker has written one of the most important books our society has seen in the past 25 years.

Given how badly our society has screwed up the past two generations of men, I'm willing to forgive A LOT of transgressions from Kathleen Parker.

Approval rating of 59.8%

So, after weeks of constant pounding, the Right has managed to push Obama's approval rating (according to the RCP average) down to 59.8%. And Jim Cramer is upset becasue Obama isn't doing enough to reinflate the stock price bubble. And you think these are signs that the tide has turned?? The "Backlash" in your title - does it refer to your personal backlash against rational thought?

And, one more thing: you've cited 2 editorials from the Great Grey Satan, The New York Times, in your "argument". That isn't allowed, you know.

Hmm...

Your last link tells me that if I want a more fiscally conservative approach than Obama's I should vote for moderate or conservative Democrats -- right?  There's no mention of any Republicans working with this Dem group to moderate excesses, yet this would seem an excellent opportunity for the Senate GOP to work with that group to make real efforts to cut spending and be more than the party of 'no'.  Do you know if they are doing that?

Aside from documenting that in fact all Dems do not worship the Messiah (kinda puts the lie to all those feverish claims) -- what were you hoping we would take from the development of Dems questioning the budget?  Isn't that what they're supposed to do to represent their constituency?  So where's the harm, for them or Obama?  Or the country as a whole?  How is that a 'win' for the GOP?

I can only guess that you see that as damaging for the Dems through the lens of the top-down, lockstep culture of the GOP, in which any GOP elected official who doesn't get on board with the official position is branded traitorous.  As someone (artigiano?) commented to another post, the Dems discussed in the article will not be viewed by any other Dem as treasonous or unfit for the tribe.  Implying that's any kind of win for the GOP is offbase.  It would be a major kerfluffle by GOP standards but it's just business as usual for the Dems.

Let me clarify...

...while the GOP will pretty much always be the lesser evil, I don't really care about their politcal fortunes except for the degree to which they save this country from massive socialism. (And yes, Eric Cantor, I'm talking about you and you alone.)

As for the practical politcal battles of the moment, you've got to be kidding me.  Obama has always been a threat to the fundamental foundation of this country in a way that Hillary never would have been.

And, since I know you'll ask me about it, (except for TARP) George W. Bush was a pretty damn good President.

That is all.

Cahnman out.

Part 2 of the plan maybe?

Seems to me that once you completely marginalize your old and actual enemy, the GOP,  that the next logical step is to substitute a fake enemy of your own creation into the void that was created.

If the public can be made to view formerly moderate Democrats as "the right wing" and formerly liberal democrats as "the centrists" fighting each other to steer the country. Then the GOP seems way out on the fringes with the KKK and the 9/11 Truthers and such.

As Keith Olberman pointed out last night "The Harlem Globetrotters need the Washington Generals in order to be The Globetrotters."

I don't want to be just the lesser evil, I'd like to see us win!

Elections, that is.

Don't worry

In 2006, the dems won an election without offering anything remotely positive.

As much as you may HATE it, being the lesser evil was the only reason the dems won in 2006.
