Urgent Action Request: Stop the Stimulus Tonight!

The House of Representatives just passed the $787 billion* version of the stimulus package by a vote of 246 to 183. Not a single Republican voted for the bill.  RedState is celebrating with a YouTube which boldly proclams that the GOP is "back in the saddle again."

Not all Republicans are back in the saddle, though.  There are three certain Senators who can stopit from happening.  Writes John Shadegg

Minutes ago, the House passed the so-called stimulus bill in the face of bipartisan opposition and without a single Republican vote–again.

The only thing that now stands between the American people and the passage of this monstrous bill is a vote in the Senate that is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Now is the crucial time to make your voices heard to the three Republican Senators who support this package and who have the power to stop it:

Sen. Arlen Specter [PA]: 202-224-4254 Sen. Olympia Snowe [ME]: 202-224-5344 Sen. Susan Collins [ME]: 202-224-2523

UPDATE: For some reason, I've lost CSPAN II at my house.  Michelle Malkin reports:

Update 5:48pm Eastern. Snowe and Collins cast their yes votes.

Update 5:51pm Eastern. Specter…Aye.

Update 6:04pm Eastern. Senate will wait for Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown to return from his mother’s wake. White House supplied him plane to whisk him back to cast the 60th vote.

Rally the Troops Around a No-Brainer

Just thinking of the long lines from this past election, a thought occured to me.  We need Conservatives to be able to demonstrate their willingness to lead and stand up for American principles.  What better way to start than to push for legislation that will (hopefully) prevent the registration/voter mess we experienced this year.

  • Better structuring of registration
  • Voter databases that are searchable and have the ability to be crossed referenced (much like police precincts can).
  • A basic modernization, started on the local level and formed into a hierarchal tree.
  • Require photo IDs to vote.  For those that already don't have them (as long as they would legally be allow to possess one),  start getting the word out to them and seeing what would their input is.

Now would be the time to start this process and try to get these ideas implemented by a "mid-term" election when voter turnout is not as high.  It would allow for a testing of the system under reduced capacity.

We the citizens should suggest/push this to our local governments and if it works well it might take off.   Start small because it is harder to work against a bigger force.  We're looking for ideas and solutions to problems ... this should be a start.

Broadcasters Freedom Act - A Call To Action

[Promoted - There's really no chance that Democrats can bring back the Fairness Doctrine itself...and they know this.  As a result, they're trying to impose it by appealing to populist, anti-business and anti-property sympathies.  You can read more about their current efforts in this article at National Review.

The progressive's "media reform" movement is becoming incredibly well-organized and influential, and it's getting positioned to have a major, game-changing impact on the media landscape.  Their 'fairness doctrine through other means' strategy could tilt the political landscape for generations to come.  This is important. - Jon Henke]

Why are the Democrats against free speech? Why do they want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine? Why are the stalling on an up or down vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act? And the big question, why aren’t conservatives, republicans, and libertarians up in arms over this and pressuring Congress to act.
