Panasonic on Cap & Trade

On June 27, 2009 I posted the following opining on the detrimental effect Mark Kirk's vote on Cap & Trade would have outside his yuppie district on Chicago's North Shore as he campaigned for the Senate.

this bill is going to appeal to the vocal but few Saab Socialists who put the environment ahead of the economy. It is going to be painfully unpopular with blue collar America. Maybe Dave Reichert's uber green district will like it; but if Mark Kirk or Mike Castle think this isn't going to backfire on them big time in Rockford and New Castle they are going to find the Democrats whacking them with their own bill next November.

I remember saying that Mark Kirk would have to do this sorta thing to win a statewide race

Specifically -- a video of Mr. Kirk's speech is posted on YouTube -- a congressman known for his pro-environmental stances said he voted the way he did on this issue because, "It was in the narrow interests of my congressional district."But," he quickly added as some in the Republican crowd booed, "as your (senator), representing the entire state of Illinois, I would vote 'no' against the bill coming up, and that's because we are manufacturing, agriculture and coal state

And now we find that this bill is not going to be considered by the Senate until 2010, perhaps because it's liable to cost every family $1761/per year

Panasonic. Again

Green for thee, but not for me! CT liberal resumes driving Crown Victoria

CT Attorney General Dick Blumenthal never met an energy project he couldn't litigate or regulate out of existence, whether it be for the "save the planet" global warming crusade or the NIMBYism of neighbors opposed to power lines.

So when he got called out on driving his state issued Ford Crown Victoria all over the state he promised to switch his official car to a hybrid

Oops, looks like his carbon footprint is getting floored once again.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, an environmental champion, is no longer driving his state-issued Honda Civic hybrid. He returned the “silver bullet” a few weeks ago to the state garage and traded it for a gas guzzling Crown Victoria.

He said earlier this week that he’s waiting for another Honda Civic hybrid with lower mileage, but refused to take back the one he brought in for repairs.

A few weeks ago, he was driving down I-395 when the dashboard lights started flashing at him. He said this was the second time the car had given him problems, the first was back in May when a battery needed to be replaced, a few days after the check engine light appeared the first time.

Typical liberal: demands the common folk drive whatever the experts order; but makes sure he goes in style for his own ride.

At least Chris Murphy is helping the environment; since he's been scarce in public since the Simsbury Stop & Shop Showdown he's not doing much harm even if he still has HIS gas guzzler.

Full disclosure: I drive a Toyota Corolla (36 mpg hwy); the Mrs. drives a late model Malibu (33 mpg hwy).

New allies for the cause: Organic Farmers

We may have a new ally in fighting the onward march towards socialism. Organic farmers are up in arms against Rep. Rosa DeLauro's "farm safety" bill.

Republicans may not have been at Woodstock, but we also don;t think the New Deal was too timid, either.

And why shouldn;t there be fear. It's not like the thrift store industry hasn't been jerked around.

Our granola famers are now confronted by the fact that they are bit players in the world of Corporate Democrats.  And Ms. DeLauro is the poster child. Former Chief of Staff to Chris Dodd.  , whom she had a funny looking land deal with.  Landlord to Rahm Emanuel . Spouse to millionaire political consultant Stan Greenberg.

Message to cabbage growers in Killingworth. Maybe the party that is more aligned with small business might work out a little better for you. Some of us already eat organic food. Time to make a deal, I say.

A Modest Green Proposal

I saw two very interesting stories on the environment yesterday made me stop and think.  One was about the UK, and a projected need for their population to shrink by half to be sustainable in a green manner.  This recommendation was made by one of the Prime Ministers leading Green Advisors.  The other story was about Oregon and how they have lost jobs due to green regulations shutting down the lumber industry.  In attempts to recover some jobs, they had also attempted to put wind mills in those areas which were also shot down by the green movement because the power lines would be an eye sore and the windmills can kill birds and bats.

At first I reacted to these stories with a narrow minded indignation on the government and action groups getting involved in issues where they should not be.  How can you have liberty where a government advocates population control?  How can green groups oppose replacing a non-green industry with green power?  Then I had an epiphany.  My thought process was not Conservative at all.  I was locked into a narrow mindset based on past, false assumptions.  My eyes opened to a way that we can reduce government impact to boost the economy and save the environment.  By letting natural forces run their course we can achieve a truly Conservative approach to solving these issues.  This is my modest proposal on how this can be accomplished.
