Thoughts on role of religion and other factors in Fort Hood violence

The essential definition of Abrahamic monotheism, as some would put it, is being  "One God too many." It must be that I agree with that notion, but I haven't really figured that out yet. All I know is that I officially withdrew my membership from the (Christian, Protestant) church recently and it still feels right.

The events of Fort Hood and the puzzle of the shooter have been on my mind. I can only imagine the pain of the actual loss of a child; it's difficult enough sometimes to have no communication whatsoever with one of mine. (His choice, with my ex's support.) So I think of those families grieving . . .and have some small glimmer of understanding.

But the shooter . . . I think of his family, too, and I think of him, lying in the hospital.

Greatest Act Of Domestic Terrorism Since 9/11.

This is the price that has to be paid for POLITICAL CORRECTNESS in our society. What’s even more chilling is that it has occurred on a United States Military Reservation on US soil by an OFFICER of the US Army. We are in a world-wide war with the philosophy of a religion which believes that it alone shall rule supreme on earth. That all other faiths, societies and nations must be subsumed by and to it. The peace loving religion of Islam has more escape clauses than a slip and fall attorney on steroids. In short where the ‘faith’ is concerned anything, literally anything, goes. There are dispensations for any behavior including, but not limited to, giving false witness and lying under oath. Major Nidal Malik Hasan was given the best this country had to offer in terms of education. It allowed him to become a  Medical Officer in the Army. He took an oath to follow the lawful orders of superior officers and to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. He had made statements which SHOULD have set off alarms all over a security conscious military. He went on a one man JIHAD/SUICIDE mission in which he killed 13 US citizens and wounded 31 others. This is not the first time a member of the ‘religion of peace’ has committed a crime against this country in incidents which are usually quickly hushed up or barely reported at all. In the massacre at Fort Hood the cartridge casings hadn’t stopped bouncing on the deck before an FBI type was contacting a news service breathlessly pronouncing that “It’s not terrorist related”. Really? Does anyone remember the one man Jihadi who shot up the EL Al terminal at LAX? Or the DC sniper who was a homegrown Muslim convert? As a matter of FACT since 9/11 there have been THIRTY ONE attacks on US Citizens by Islamo-Fascist terrorists on US soil, domestically grown or otherwise. Meanwhile, US Muslims are quick to start playing the victim card blaming everyone and everything but themselves. There is tremendous danger in not recognizing the danger of a ‘religion’ for whom lying under oath or otherwise is a legitimate method of advancing a hateful repressing philosophy based on a seventh century mentality and whose aim is first and foremost the destruction of our country and our way of life. Yet our government…ESPECIALLY THIS government, ever mindful of ‘Muslim sensitivities’, continues down the precarious path of political correctness to the detriment of our society and most particularly our military. Our Military Intelligence and CID (Criminal Investigation Division), that would normally function in high gear in a country at war, has been largely muzzled and ignored in the race to be sensitive and accommodating to cultures other than our own. These people need to be freed to do their jobs. Major Hasan should never have gotten as far as he did…the signs were all there for those who cared to see. There is a culture of political correctness in our military, and most particularly in the Army, which is going to cost more lives unless we stop and take inventory of what and who we face and stop treating this world-wide WAR as though it were a parlor game at a sorority party. Undoubtedly there are many US Muslims who are solid loyal American citizens…undoubtedly there are many who are not and how are we to know the difference?

Obama, Machiavelli, and 43; why style still matters when the follower is quietly copying his predecessor....

President Obama rhetorically threw America under the bus yesterday.

George W. Bush gave the same substantive speech (minus apologies) a year ago.

My question is this: President Obama, as much as you quitely continue 43's counterterrorism policies In Iraq, Afghanistan, Club Gitmo, Terrorist Surveillance, and Rendition has the thought ever occured to you that despite your good (as much as it pains me to admit that) actions, your good actions are easily undermined by your words.

You don't understand Machiaveli 101; fear is more important than love.

I agree with you on a certain level; George W. Bush made us unloved around the world.  God Bless him, George W. Bush rejected the paradigm of appeasement to make sure our enemies feared us.

On the other hand, you really seem to think that by talking to them, our enemies will magically surrender.  Dude, it doesn't work that way.  Pussies are only an inch and a half away from you know what.

President Obama, America has not done anything wrong (except for raising taxes in 1990) over the past thirty years.  Given that you're speaking at Normandy later this week, before you throw America under the bus again, consider America's True Greatness.

I hope this helps.

Cahnman out.

This is not about

It's more similar to prevarication.

Muhammed, Bush and Muslim Prejudice

I'm noting the intersection today of the criticisms of Muhammed for his 'sins' and the criticisms of the Bush Administration's attitude toward water boarding.

What most people didn't object to in 2002 while the fear of terrorism was a close as their breath, with the subsiding of that fear and memory, the public is now moreso criticizing Bush and Co for failing to live up to American ideals during time of war.

[It is noted that indeed there were many who objected DURING the war.]

In this context, I offer a review of the biography of Muhammed:

To understand the prophet we have to understand the environment he had to work with and the culture of chivalry that he was part of.He was not born in an age of social security, old age homes and political correctness.

Muhammad's mission emerged in a war zone, if u want a modern parallel think of the Krips and Bloods magnified by a thousand, Think ethnic cleansing in Bosnia/Serbia. For those with more historical erudtiion think of Japan in the Muromachi period.

In the midst of such turmoil and suffering a noble warrior emerges, his basic message to the people is that we are all the same, no tribe or person is superior to another there is only one god ie we are all part of the unity of things.

This in a nutshell is the sahadah or testimony of the Islamic faith. He preaches the message in peace at first and maintains this peaceful mission despite persecution of him and his followers. When the persecution becomes too great and the powers that be refuse to change their evil ways, god grants him the authority to fight. Muhammad takes up the mantle for war even though his army is still low in their numbers and their resources pitiful. Miraculously with he help of God, Muhammed an his followers are able to overcome their adversaries and are able to create a new civilisation. This is how a Hollywood movie would portray the prophets life, it's a lot more digestible now isn't it?

Muhammad sanctioned the death of a lot of people, but he spared the lives of a lot of people too even though he would be justified in taking their lives as an example to others or in self defense.

Some people will avoid the truth and become enemies of it,or it is their dharma to protect the old order, rightly or wrongly(as is the case of his own uncle)This will lead to more bloodshed injustice and suffering than if they are allowed to live.

God wont just wave a wand and everyone will be cleansed and purified, this defeats the whole purpose of human existence, destiny and responsibility. When we are able to extricate our limited grasp of the human experience from our cosy suburban cages we can see the true genius of the prophet. In a war situation, a person has to be a warrior, The prophet of Islam is the greatest warrior that ever lived, he did not shy away from the responsibilities and the horrors of war, for someone who was of such a sensitive and ascetic disposition it must have been unbearably painful. In Muhammed we see the personification of Arjuna in the Bhagvad Gita.Muhammed waged war, selflessly and with absolute trust in gods will(bhakti). He did not indulge in the power and privelige his victories bought him(he married mostly widows and died with hardly anything to his name.) In the character of the prophet Muhammad we see the character of God, that is what is meant by his saying `he who has seen me has seen god'. As god says his wrath is great, but his mercy overrideth his wrath. In fact gods wrath is illusionary, it is a mercy in disguise.(that is an esoteric principle which need exploration)

Muhammad was harsh and decisive when necessary, in life harshness is necessary ,let alone in a period of warring states. The harshness he displayed is as the harshness of god. Muhammad was equally generous (he spared the jew that bewitched him, forgave the people of Taif etc etc. He always maintained that the peaceful path was superior to the path of confrontation.

Muhammad and Islam is problem for people who have a problem with accepting reality as it is and want spirituality to be an escape from facing the truth about ourselves and the evil within us.

All Reliogus mythology,in fact all moral systems emerge out of conflict betwen opposing forces,so it seems very peculiar that Islam is singled out as being inhernetly violent, when in fact all moral systems we know in any civilisation have pretty much the same origins.Christ did not bring a new civilisation,he was a reformer of an existing one. Muhammed integrated both yin and yang of the spiritual path.He was able to be the sitting and walking Buddha in one.In his example i can see the spiritual perfection aspired towards by a sage in every religion,he managed to reconcile heaven and earth and mastered and mediated between both.

Muhammad is a true example to all humanity of how spirituality should be exercised in all conditions of life, not just when we have the luxury to live in an ideological bubble.  A truly remarkable Human Being.

I also take just a moment to say that I find some comments here concerning those who follow Islam to be as 'extremist' as the recent characterizations here of Islam and the people who practice that faith.

I have known many Muslim people who are in no way extremists, violent or ignorant.

On the whole, of those I've met, I've found them to be intelligent, reverent, and much more mild mannered than most who participate on this blog!

From my studies of the history of all religions it seems apparent that each 'prophet' came asa wayshower to a different population at various times thru history. Mohammed delivered amessage that could be heard and accepted by the desert population of the Middle East, and so it would come as no surprise that it spoke to them 'from where they were'. I find it helpful tohear the teachings (whatever the religion) with that in mind.

Flight 93 Memorial - A Matter of Honor - A Matter of Disgrace

A Matter of Honor - A Matter of Disgrace

Debra J.M. Smith - Informing Christians

Architects, Paul Murdoch and Byrd Woltz designed the memorial with the shape of a crescent. Would they design a memorial for an attack in a predominately Muslim nation in the shape of a cross? If you were to stand right between the tips of the crescent and face into the center of the crescent, you would be facing North East, which from the crash-site is the direction to Mecca. That is the Muslim direction for prayer, so if you are a Muslim, this site should make you quite happy. -- There is audio available for this article: Click Here.

Torture and Moral Equivalency

 Crossposted at Right Minds

Perhaps the most common movie and TV clichés is the following situation: the protagonists are being set upon by the forces of evil, one of them thinks of a brilliant but slightly morally uncertain plan to defeat the villains, the leader of the good guys vetoes it while pointing out that the immorality of the plan would make them no different than those they are fighting against. Then the heroes find another plan that works just as well. This highlights the virtue of the heroes while making the villains seem all the worse.

Liberals believe that we face much the same situation today. The United States captures dozens of prisoners in the fight against Al-Qaeda and Islamic terrorism. Many of them are then rushed to clandestine prisons across the world (Guantanamo Bay is the most notorious), held for months, sometimes years, without trial, and occasionally tortured. (At least if you count waterboarding as torture. And the U.S. has used waterboarding only rarely, and then only on high-profile prisoners). So is the U.S. morally equivalent to its enemies—does the only difference between us and those we fight lie in degree, but not in kind?

No. Even assuming the worst about America—which you can always count on liberals to do—the United States is undoubtedly morally superior to its enemies.

The adversaries we face are evil—wholly, irrationally evil. Radical Islam has been a dangerous threat for decades. After the creation of the state of Israel, the Muslim countries surrounding it wasted little time in attempting to annihilate it, even though Israel was controlled by Great Britain (not by an Islamic country) before becoming a sovereign country and has few natural resources. Then came the overthrow of the Shah in Iran, and the horrible Iran-Iraq War, which pitted the Soviet-backed Iranians against Saddam Hussein’s vicious armies in a war that truly had no good guys.

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Islamic terrorists ratcheted up their attacks against the United States. They attacked the World Trade Center with a car bomb, struck U.S. embassies in Africa, attacked American peacekeeping Marines in Somalia, and attempted to sink the U.S.S. Cole.

Finally, Islamic terrorists pulled off the disastrous 9/11 attacks, killing nearly 3,000 people and destroying two the tallest buildings in the world. The sheer damage and unrest caused by Islamic jihadists over the last twenty years is unmatched by any other group in the world during that time. (And I have only mentioned the attacks on Americans; Islamic radicals have killed many more people from other countries).

Making this situation perplexing is the fact that the Islamic world really doesn’t have a legitimate quarrel with us. Okay, they don’t like our support of Israel, but that is a wholly inadequate reason to launch a war. Apart from the U.S.-Israel alliance, the Muslim world has nothing to complain about—during the Cold War, America gave a great deal of aid to the Afghan mujahideen in their fight against their Soviet opponents. In the Gulf War, the U.S. came to the aid of tiny Islamic Kuwait against Saddam Hussein. During the Nineties, America went to war in Kosovo in part to aid Albanian Muslims. The U.S. has treated Muslims well, and they have nothing to complain about. Hitler was more justified in invading Poland than Osama bin Laden was in attacking the U.S. on 9/11.

So, to sum things up: radical Islam slaughters thousands of innocents for absolutely no reason. It kills indiscriminately and without mercy. In addition, it is to blame for a great deal of suffering around the world, and is guilty of untold numbers of human rights abuses. It opposes women’s rights, freedom of religion, and any form of dissent.

On the other hand, the United States waterboards terrorists sometimes.

The two sides are not morally equivalent. America makes mistakes and commits injustices. But its role as a force for good so much outweighs its moral weaknesses that any attempt to suggest that radical Islam and America have anything in common is simply a disgraceful slander. Instead of worrying about possible American torture, perhaps liberals should focus on the numerous crimes committed by radical Islam.

Multiculturism a Factor Turning Moderate Muslims Radical?

William Federer highlights unintended consequence of over tolerating Islam

By Willam J. Federer

March 6, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Britain's Daily Mail, Jan. 29, 2007, reported in the article "Multiculturalism drives young Muslims to shun British values":

Multiculturalism has alienated an entire generation of young Muslims and made them increasingly radical, a report has found. In stark contrast with their parents, growing numbers sympathize with extreme teachings of Islam, with almost four in 10 wanting to live under Sharia law in Britain. The study identifies significant support for wearing the veil in public … and even punishment by death for Muslims who convert to another religion. Most alarmingly, 13 percent of young Muslims said they "admired" organizations such as al-Qaida which are prepared to "fight the West."

Germany's Spiegel, Dec. 20, 2007, reported in the article "Interior Ministry warns of radicalization of Muslims":

A new study released by Germany's Interior Ministry has added new fuel to the debate about integration of Muslims in Germany, with the report warning about the danger of radicalization of Muslims. According to the study ... 40 percent of Muslims surveyed had a "fundamentalist orientation" ... 6 percent of those surveyed were classified as having "violent tendencies," while 14 percent of respondents had "anti-democratic" tendencies. ... The report also concluded that religious beliefs are becoming increasingly important for young people.

Europe is wondering why fundamental Islam is not assimilating, - history may reveal the reason.

The word "Islam" means submission to the will of Allah, and a "Muslim" is someone who has submitted. A "dhimmi" is an inferior non-Muslim coerced to submit.

Barack Obama's Islamophobia

SMEAR: Barack Obama is a Muslim

Excuse me?  Being a Muslim is a smear?  Sounds a bit intolerant to me.  Would you say that being a Christian is a smear?  What about being Jewish?
