job losses

Young Adults Must Be A Part of Any Solution to The Jobs Crisis

It has been a tough year for America’s youth. We liked Barack Obama. It may not be the best reason to vote for someone, but the fact remains, he was the coolest politician of our lifetime. Throughout the campaign he made it a point to speak directly to us. In return, we made him a walking, talking viral video and carried him into office. More than a year later many young adults find themselves out of work, dissatisfied with the direction of the country, and left with plenty of time to wonder what happened to the change that was promised.

Part of the problem was that the campaign left people expecting a revolution. Things much deeper than the simple color of his skin sent the message that he was going to be different. It was that much more of a surprise then that business continued as usual in the White House. But from the youth perspective, the most disturbing part of the continuation of a tired status quo, was that Obama seemed to forget about young adults. As Erica Williams, policy and advocacy manager for Campus Progressives explains,

“While we were still largely supportive of the administration and the president, we were a little disappointed in the compromises that had been made, the lack of engagement between the administration and young people,”

The lack of engagement has become the clearest on the issue of job creation. A new report by Reuters shows that only 26 percent of American teenagers aged 16-19 had jobs in late 2009 – a record low since statistics were first kept. Moreover, “the disconnection rate – Americans aged 20 to 24 who were neither in school nor working – jumped to 28 percent last year from 17 percent in 2007.”

The staggering unemployment figures threaten to create a lost generation among America’s youth. Being squeezed from the top by experienced middle-aged workers and from the bottom by the constantly refilling ranks of graduating classes, young adults have been desperately looking from a quick response to the job crisis. As Edward DeJusus, President and Founder of the Youth Development and Research Fund, said,

“In a society where the world has become increasingly fast-paced and technologically progressive, it is imperative to not only involve today’s youth in the future of job creation, but also to recruit their efforts. “

There is a growing notion that Obama has failed to involve today’s youth in how to create more jobs. It is no surprise then that there is a parallel trend in which young adults feel that the country is headed in the wrong direction. As Rasmussen polls show, the number of 18-29 year olds who believe the country is headed in the right direction has dropped by 20 percent in just four months while the number who believe we are going in the wrong direction has increased by 20 percent.

Right Direction-Wrong Track

Young adults are suffering. We need jobs. We also need a President or a party who is will make our concerns a priority. As Pete Levine of the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement explains the importance of young adults, “[The recession is] a more formative experience than anything any politician is going to do. If it turns out that we’ve already seen the worst, that’s one story. If it lasts for years, it’ll also be very influential.” Republicans would be wise to listen. Barack Obama was able to capture young adults in 2008 based on a promise, Republicans can win their vote forever by including them in a plan to improve the economy.

Supremes Get One Right: Gut McCain Feingold.

After one of the WORST activist based decisions in history, that of April 2, 2007, which gave the EPA the power to treat auto CO2 emissions as an environmental issue, the Supreme Court seems to have finally put its robes on straight and actually READ the Constitution they are sworn to abide by. The court struck down major portions of the bill, especially those relating to the government’s regulation of free speech.

Senator John McCain’s support for this widely unpopular bill turned many Conservative and Independent voters against him, myself among them. That, and his support for amnesty among other “across the aisle” excursions, probably made him unelectable to anyone but party insiders. Frankly, I voted for him only as a vote against Barack Obama.

One hopes that the Supremes would continue their study of the Constitution for what it actually says and not in support of activist goals. It should be noted that President Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, voted against the people of this country.

Supreme Court Of The United States

A number of other things have happened that should have Conservative patriots concerned since Scott Brown overturned Barack Obama’s brown, wormy apple cart. Nancy Pelosi, looking much like she had just bitten into one of those apples, admitted that they did not have the votes for the passage of Obama /Pelosi /Reid care. That’s a good thing, that’s a very good thing. Democrats are scrambling to come up with something that doesn’t smell of defeat and absolute retreat for their boss, while in the face of an indisputable message from the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Obama announced that he would seek a ONE POINT NINE TRILLION DOLLAR increase in the debt ceiling. I’d say “WHAT?!!!” But I used that yesterday. In does point to the incredible disconnect between mainstream America and the ideologically-driven Democrat government, that in the face of a clear message to the contrary the administration would continue down this politically suicidal path.

President Obama also announced the government takeover of the school loan program, another ONE HUNDRED AND THREE BILLION DOLLAR government takeover. There were another 36,000 jobs lost last week, bringing job losses in the ‘Obama recovery’ to some 480,000 since the beginning of the Obama Presidency. Meanwhile, the Feds are planning to give PROTECTED STATUS to 200,000 Haitians. This begs the question, just who the heck is protecting AMERICAN CITIZENS?

Here’s a question to France and that ODIOUS blowhard in Venezuela… where are your aid convoys to Haiti? Gee, guess they must have been delayed. But then we saw the way France treated it’s colonials and how Chavez treats his citizens.

There are Conservatives lining up in challenges to the leftists all over the country and the march to defeat the attempted takeover of our country continues. Now is not a time to slack up or to rest on yesterday’s accomplishments. Now is the time for action. Action begins in your communities. Action begins with you.

Obama News, All Bad All The Time – 444,000 Job Losses Last Month.

It’s hard to tell where to start with this guy, other than to say it’s more readily apparent every hour that America has just about had it with him. If Presidential elections were held today he wouldn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell. But wait! THAT part is GOOD news… at least for those of us who VALUE freedom, honor our COUNTRY, and believe in its CONSTITUTION.

The Anointed One bugled success in brokering a ‘DEAL’ with labor unions bosses, to whom his administration is in hock tentatively exempting so-called Cadillac health plans from the heavy taxation burden favored by DeMarxists and objected to strongly by the unions. The taxation axe would then also exempt family plans less than $23,000, leaving the burden of taxation to fall on those making more than $200,000 per year. Another OBAMA PROMISE SHATTERED and CLEARLY a blatantly unconstitutional move which begs a CONSTITUTIONAL CHALLENGE.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka got concessions from Democrats on taxes of high-end health plans.

That’s if it goes that far at all and at this point it’s not clear that it will. Opposition to the bill, even within DeMarxist ranks, is growing by the minute and the BROWN / COAKLEY race in Massachusetts is but a microcosm of the wave of outrage and discontent brewing in the country at this juncture. Obama is avoiding this race as though it were the bubonic plague, another sure sign that Coakley may have severe troubles at hand as Scott Brown continues to surge with a spirited and enthusiastic following.

Retail sales tanked in December and the floor dropped from under sales figures for 2009. As stated in this column on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 housing foreclosures are set to go through the roof, with 2.8 million homes foreclosed on in 2009 and a record THREE POINT FIVE MILLION HOMES projected to be at risk of foreclosure this year. Once again, this figure does NOT reflect the long-feared and anticipated wave of COMMERCIAL foreclosures expected to hit this year and next.

With Obama having finally figured out that his blaming ‘everything Bush’ for his own failures and obvious shortcomings, the MAOBAMA spin machine have come up with one that they think may hold together before the New Media blows it out of the water… sort of like I’m doing now. ‘It’s OUR COMPUTER SYSTEM’. Yup, that’s it folks. It’s our outdated and outmoded computers that are causing this to be the most ineffective and dishonest administration in US history. Hey, Obama! It’s great! Keep those cards and letters coming.
