Who does Obama think he is fooling?

Obama is seriously insulting the intelligence of his supporters. Yesterday he sent out a YouTube video saying that he will be opting out of the public campaign funding that he promised to accept as part of his Change platform. This move was not unexpected, but the reasons he gave were just silly.

Among other things he claimed that the system was broken and that he wants to truly change the culture of Washington. So at some point between his being an underdog to Hillary when he promised "If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.” and now, the system broke? He's not fooling anybody. The only thing that has changed is his ability, albeit an impressive one, to raise boatloads of cash.

Obama also throws up the Lobbyist/PAC issue saying that McCain gets so much money from them that he will be at a disadvantage. This is a ridiculous place to play the victim card, everyone knows how much money Obama raises. But as Patrick Ruffini points out, Lobbyists and PAC contributions amount to less than %2 of McCain's fundraising.

The Obama campaign does not accept PAC money or Lobbyist money. But who do you think hires lobbyists and contributes to PAC's? Big corporations of course. And Obama has claimed that he wants to take corporate corruption out of the political process. But he does accept contributions from the corporations themselves. Check out this list from OpenSecrets.org of Obama's top contributors. Corporations galore!!

Despite the spin Obama loses a lot of credibility on this one. As much as he wants to wrap this decision in a "change" mantle, everyone can see through the facade to the greedy politician who is willing to conveniently break any promise if it will help him get ahead.
He's not changing anything, greed is greed. And his supporters have every reason to be disillusioned.
