BREAKING. . . from Michael Steele:
As leaders of our respective national parties, we want to speak to all Americans about the importance of conducting our political debates in a manner and tone that respects our political system and demonstrates to the world the strength of our democracy.
We have a system of government that allows the great issues of our day to be resolved peacefully and civilly and that serves as a beacon of hope to those around the world who yearn for political freedom, political stability, and governing without the threat of violence.
We have a system that allows people to express approval of their government or change the party in power peaceably through the ballot box.
Our Constitution affords Americans the right to assemble and petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Clearly, we have different positions on the merits of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. However, we together call on elected officials of both parties to set an example of the civility we want to see in our citizenry. We also call on all Americans to respect differences of opinion, to refrain from inappropriate forms of intimidation, to reject violence and vandalism, and to scale back rhetoric that might reasonably be misinterpreted by those prone to such behavior.

Gee, this was so touching, and from a RINO too......wow
Lets all go down to Obama's Rev. Wright Chuch and G......D..... America, now.
Lets scale back the rhetoric, maybe the Ayers option from the 70's would be more appropriate ? Wait, I don't remember any accusations, by the GOP, against the Democrats, for the Ayers connection to the bombings ?
I do Remember Pentagon, "bombing", and "founder of the Weatherman Terror Group". But, Only NOW do I remember the Democrat Connection as Obama describes him as a "spiritual advisor", for sure.
Ayers doesn't throw no stinking bricks ! He's BIG time with Obama.
It's a very damning comment
It's a very damning comment about the contemporary right that the ONLY prominent figure to issue this sort of unconditional statement against the reactionary rowdies, kooks, and crazies stirred up by the reactionaries in congress and the right-wing press is a guy who is hated by the conservative rank-and-file (and, of course, the only response, here, is that he gets trashed, and condemned as a "RINO").
At some point, one of these insane "patriots" IS going to listen to the voices in his head--the ones from Fox News, talk radio, the Republican congressional caucas--and he IS going to take up a rifle or bomb or other weapon and set out to "save" the U.S. from the Kenyan Muslim socialist in the White House, or one of his hellion hecubi in congress, and the finger of every clown who ever shouted "death panels" or "government take-over" or "show me the birth certificate" IS going to be on the trigger with his own.
You've been punked - Steele refused to sign it.
Crow was being snarky - Steele refused to sign this statement, on the grounds that it came from the DNC and was therefore the work of Satan.
So not even him, eh? Wow.
So not even him, eh? Wow.
Yep, lots of Republicans have a problem with Steele
If Americans took seriously the Democrat talking points about "Tea Terror" doing violence to the poor frightened Democrats, if we took those lies seriously, we might compose this "Apology", and some cautionary remarks have been made.....But its just Democrat lies being pushed by the Media machine....... cover for the healthcare bill.
Either Steele has to endorse the Tea Party planks and attack the Socialists agenda, or Steele has to pull a Frum, and get fired by the "Next Right" anti big government Republicans.
Crow was just projecting himself upon Steele. Tea Party wants him fired. Soon. NY23 IS PART OF THE REASON WHY.
Lying by omission
Here is the actual Politico article on which this story is based.
You'll note some key omissions from Crow about the full nature of this story:
That is exactly right. Steele wouldn't get any credit from anyone for signing the statement. Its only possible use is as a weapon.
So no, Steele doesn't support using violence or threats.
It is also interesting to note that if you surf around the left side of the blogosphere about this story, most of this detail has been left off. Liberals complain that all we do is watch Fox News and listen to Rush Limbaugh all day, but where do they get their news? Daily Kos, DU, TPM, etc., etc....
Peace & best on your next race--that's what America is about.
Clearly labeled "snark.'
We shoud all condemn the bricks, whether thru Rep Hdqrs in C'ville, Va, or death threats to children of several Dem reps.
I hope everyone on this site is better than that.
Most of us really are.
