Successfully (and Dangerously) Tweeting for Reform

Republican Cook County (IL) Commissioner Tony Peraica is a reformer in a jurisdiction that doesn't appreciate reform.

But he fights on anyway.

Tony is committed to using technology in a big way to reach voters, circumvent the mainstream media and push for reform.

He's scored major media hits on the local Fox affiliate and in the Chicago Sun-Times for his "live tweets" of County Board meetings.

Local reporters follow his tweets -- and he's building an online grassroots following that helped him do the impossible last week:  pass a full repeal of a massive sales tax hike enacted by the county board last year.

Bottom line:  this is the biggest Republican victory in at least a decade in the state of Illinois.

Unfortunately, Tony's aggressive reform efforts may have put him in danger.

On the same night the tax increase passed, armed gunmen fired seven bullets in Tony's neighbor's home.  The local police and county sheriff strongly believe those bullets were actually meant for Tony.

Does this type of fear tactic intimidate Tony?  Not a chance.  In fact, he's fighting back -- and using his online networks to do so.

I urge you all to learn more about Tony's (dangerous) fight for reform by watching the brief video below:

Tony is a Fiscally Conservative Hero

No wonder so many good people stay out of the dirty, dangerous world of politics.  I was so moved by this man's courage and dedication to his constituents that I've requested my colleagues to proliferate this on FB and Twitter. I ♥ Tony Perica.

"Armed Gunmen"

How do you know they were armed?  How do you know they were men?

Sorry, that line needed a wake-up call.

Sounds like citizens using their Second Amendment rights to make a First Amendment statement.  Are you saying that they shouldn't be allowed to carry guns or that they shouldn't make political statements with them?  Glenn Beck is SO last week.

Discordian response to Repack Rider's "Wake Up Call"

How do we know "they" were armed?  Arming one's self with a weapon of some sort is quite often a prerequisite to launching bullets through the walls of an urban dwelling, even if a slingshot or Yagua blowgun was employed for this purpose.  Perhaps you're suggesting the bullets were thrown at high speed by a former Red Sox player on steroids?  After all, anything is possible.

How do we know "they" were men?  The one thing we know is what we don't know, so perhaps the term "gunmen" should be modified to "gunperson".  Although if we apply that term, then you should inform Janet Napolitano that the one thing we know is that we don't know that only men are responsible for disasters, and she should therefore change her term replacing "terrorism" from "man-caused disaster" to "person-caused disaster" - just for consistency, which is important for the illusion of order in a completely chaotic government bureaucracy.

Making political statements with guns is not generally considered an appropriate form of behavior in "polite society" (using the term loosely of course), although I have no objection to taking a slogan like "Glenn Beck is SO Last Week", hanging it upon the target at the outdoor range, and proceeding to shoot at it (assuming one was able to purchase the bullets with which to do so).  That would seem to be an excellent use of the Second Amendment to make a First Amendment statement, whereas shooting at the Commissioner's home, or that of his neighbor, not so much.

I don't think

...that the Second Amendment right extends only to putting holes in paper. If so, there are cheaper means of doing so.

It was Mr. Beck who suggested recently that citizens arm themselves against government threats.  SO last week.

Breaking my personal rule

Breaking my personal rule about minimum civility:

You.  Are.  An.  Idiot.

This man's neighbors get their house shot at for NO LEGITIMATE REASON, and you think this is a great time to make some stupid, directionless "point" about gun control.  As if, somehow, these criminals would not have guns if there was some ban.

"Yeah, let's go shoot up that Tony jerk's house."

"Oh, we can't do that!  Guns are ILLEGAL!"

1.)  Imply that the incident

1.)  Imply that the incident didn't occur because the gender of perpetrators was not confirmed.

2.) Contradict yourself by approving of the attack.

3.) ???

4.) Profit!

Does Next Right...

...have any sort of competition or award for "Most Inane" comment?  If so, I hereby nominate Repack Rider for his tremendous work this morning.
