What If we didn't go into Iraq?

One subject that I find little to zero discussion about in the Blogniverse is 'What if we didn't go into Iraq? Can you put a name on the atmosphere that would now exist internationally and within America if Saddam was still in control of one of the worlds largest supply of Sweet Light Crude Oil? Raking in Billions of dollars and continuing to play games with the UN weapons inspectors like he had been?

How about the obvious point that he was waiting/hoping for another gutless Clinton/Carter Democrat to be elected as our leader so he would be able to fund Terror groups,Palestinian splodey-dopes and who knows who else in the years after Bush I snipped his balls?

Say what you will about the whys and the reasons Bush II went into Iraq but I will say this, Thank Goodness that we did, and I praise our great military and the families of the soldiers that have died for making this great, the greatest sacrifice for Western Civilization since the defeat of Xerxes and Attila the Hun.

We on the Right need to discuss this subject more and more rather than merely reacting to the Moonbats irrational venomous hatred for Bush( Gore Lost! Get over it Morons!) and rationally consider exactly what was at stake for non-action in Iraq.

I am not happy about our military suffering almost 4,200 dead soldiers so far while fighting two wars and on many more fronts than that but lets not forget that our Military lost 4,617 lives during the 8 years of Bill Clinton and how much further along towards actually killing the bad guys that needed to be killed did that get us?

Interesting question.

Interesting question.

I, for one, don't think we should go to war to liberate crude oil, and I think that to suggest that the war had anything to do with as much only undermines the legitimacy of the effort.

Of course, I refuse to toe the Bush line on this effort and I've been told on any number of questions that my thinking on defense is unacceptable for a Republican.

I agree with you, as I can only hope any American would, that all respect and thanks go to our servicemen and -women. I encourage all of us to find a military family and do what you can to help them in this time of war.

It is so much easier to use slogans

than to actually use reasoning. Any variation on the "No Blood for OIL," No War for Oil," or "BushLied People Died" is nothing more than empty rhetoric without thinking or reasoning.

The bankrupt thought processes of the left and the MSM can apparently only hold one empty slogan at a time, and so the Iraq War has, in their pathetic minds, become nothing more than a military excursion to get oil.

Might I suggest that people go back to the Authorization to Use Force, (READ: Declaration of WAR) that Congress passed in 2002. There you will find 17 different Whereas clauses. That was Congress stating 17 different reason why the US Congress was declaring war on Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Congresscritters are not very imaginative, and so, those 17 reasons were not whims on their part.

I might also suggest that people go back and read the speech that President Bush made before the joint session of Congress on, I believe, Sept 14, 2001.  People might note the phrase, "Those who harbor terrorists are as guilty as the terrorists themselves."

I might remind people that by the terms of the agreement that ended the Gulf War in 1991, Saddam Hussein was obliged to live by certain terms, and that he had been defying those terms for a decade.

I might remind people that his military had fired upon US planes protecting the No-Fly Zone no less than 750 times.

I might remind people that Saddam Hussein had training sites for terrorists such as the one at Salmon Pak where Iraqi military trained terrorists from many different countries in the business of terrorism.

I might remind people that post-911 the US could not sit idly by and wait for the next attack, but instead decided to take the war that terrorists were waging against the US, back to them, whereever they might be staging or now hiding.

I might....but it would be an incredible waste of my time.

My point, David, is simply

My point, David, is simply that the author of this blog would be prudent not to imply that the U.S. entered Iraq to free its oil reserves, which, as you pointed out, was not the stated objective of the campaign. To refer to the release of the oil as one of the benefits of the war only ultimately undermines one's argument for the war.

Hold on..

My point in mentioning the fact that Iraq contains the worlds prime resorvoir of sweet light crude is made to highlight the fact that Saddam Hussein controlled that supply, and in so doing, could manipulate our addiction to the stuff to serve his own ends.

That oil was what allowed that tyrant to fund his projects and whoever he chose to spread his wealth towards. It could have been sugar cane, heroin or swingin love babes that his nation was able to produce and sell on the world market that empowered him but it happened to be Oil.

Thi is why we should be discussing this because some forward looking facts are not being illuminated. Such as the current events in Russia and China. What If Saddam was still in power? Can you imagine the effect of him selling his high quality brand of oil to China and Russia only? The fact that he is not alive to play that game is of high importance to our footing economically as well as strategically.

This was not a War for Oil like the Moonbats chime...but This war was vital because Oil was fueling the power of a rabid dog ,the type that only a Republican has the stomach to take out back and shoot.

Do What You Can to Support Our Troops by Adopting a Soldier

Great suggestion Lisa, and I have two wonderful links in response on the Soldiers Angels website:

Soldiers Angels - Adopt a Soldier

Soldiers Angels - Adopt a Lady of Liberty

My Lady of Liberty is from American Samoa and is stationed at FOB Warrior in Kirkuk.  I did not know this until I started writing to her, but we grew up about 20 miles apart on Oahu, Hawaii (I'm town, she's country).

This morning there are 93 heroes waiting for adoption, and you can submit your hero's name to be adopted also.  This wonderful, wonderful site provides information on ways to support the families here at home as well.

Thanks so much for reminding me to mention this!  Rock on, girl.

My soldier is in Mosul and a

My soldier is in Mosul and a fan of the same sports team as me. I have a family here that I try to help out, too, though I always feel like I don't do enough.

It's interesting that, so many years hence,

so many discount the necessity of the actions taken in Iraq, while still ostensibly applauding that carried out in Afghanistan.  Why don't libs note that the Taliban never attacked us, that only the little band of bloody brothers that they harbored did that?

The entire world knew that Saddam Hussein was a danger to the peace and stability of the world, as well as a murderous despot.  Sanctions and sanctimony, neither having any effect whatsoever, were abundant, but the lacking ingredient at the time in most capitals was nerve.

Even worse, some of the least willing were those whose pockets Saddam had long been lining, at the expense of the Iraqi people.  For me, oil was never the issue, and from the way things are looking right now, I'd have to say we'd better not measure our success in Iraq by the prices we pay at the pump.  The issue was and is freedom.

Amen, Pastor

Perfectly put. Now back to my question.

What If?  Does anyone have anything scenarios floating around inside your head that you would be kind enough to share?
