Obama Quits Trinity United

Obama has officially resigned from Trinity United Church of Christ, apparently in the aftermath of Father Michael Pfleger's incendiary comments about Hillary Clinton and race. This really couldn't be better for Republicans--Obama will more or less have to admit that he attended a church that preached racism, people will wonder why he didn't leave Trinity a long time ago, Jeremiah Wright gets back into the news cycle, and Obama is forced into the defensive (again). Perfect.
UPDATE: Two observations about Obama's speech: a) he speaks much better with a Teleprompter (I'm watching the Q&A part), and b) he is wearing (gasp) a substitute for patriotism on his lapel. Hmmm.
UPDATE II: Obama refuses to denounce Trinity United: "I will not denounce the church. It is not a church worthy of denouncing." He says that the nation has seen "caricatures" of the church. Sorry, Obama, but direct quotes aren't "caricatures."

That's how I see it, too. The fact that he's withdrawing his membership only appears to validate all the concerns that have been voiced about the church. This will make many wonder why he didn't do this three months ago.

So what DOES this guy believe in, anyway?

Perhaps he can buy a moral compass on EBay or Craigslist?

Re:So what DOES this guy believe in, anyway?

You're just saying that because you don't understand the black community.

No, that not why

I'm saying it because Obama just weeks ago said he couldn't disown his preacher and his church. Now he can.

If a man in the heat of a political campaign can blthely trade in his alleged core beliefs, it leads one to conclude the man simply doesn't have any core beliefs. Or the ones that he has cannot be publicly discussed.

It's pretty obvious to me Trinity Church was a "flag of convenience" for a Chicago pol on the make.

I was kidding--that's the line Obama supporters always use.

Here's a question

Why does he have a problem with Trinity's racism and hatred of America now? He didn't have a problem with it for 20 years.

if you watched the conference

that's not what he said. He did not denounce the church or its teaching. He said the media circus was causing too much trouble for the congregation and he felt it was no longer in his family's or his church's best interest for the Obama family to remain members there.

That's presidential style leadership right there. I imagine what he'll do once a foreign leader demands anything from Obama.

I rather

thought it was an impressive piece of spin work. Imagine how selfless one would have to be to leave one's own church home for the good of the congregation.

I'm surprised he let this mess drag out so long.

Ah, selflessness.

The word "messiah" has been employed in this arena already this year.

Ok--so HE's the problem?

As Dr. Evil frequently said in the Austin Powers  movies "...rrrrrright......"

Not Sure About This Move

Obama's flip-flopped like a carp on dry land regarding his church issue, not showing any real leadership skills or ability to hang in when the going gets tough. The mesmerized supporters will say it's great - but what about the much more numerous who are not mesmerized? I don't think they will take too kindly to this action...

This just hangs a lantern on this problem

Trust me, folks in yuppie suburbia have no interest in voting for anyone associated with any whacko church. What was the Howard Baker line in Watergate "What did Barack know about this church and when did he know it?"

Somehow,

rather than Howard Baker, Howard Beale came to mind.  In reference to the television industry, he said, "We'll tell you any **** you want to hear."  Of course, he was more fictional than Barack Obama, I think.
