Just to add an excerpt that I came across today

This from Arthur Schopenhauer:

"The relation of the sexes... is really the invisible central point of all action and conduct, and peeps out everywhere in spite of all veils thrown over it."

This struck me as being an excellent argument against same-sex marriage.

I have a friend, a conservative, who told me the other day that he felt more inclined to be accepting of same-sex marriage after concluding that some ineffective argument forwarded by Huckabee was quite ridiculous.

However, ridiculous or not, it does not change the fact that this is an instance where the lack of an official sanction is equated with an official suppression.  Of course, this is not true.

Yet it should be remembered that we have engaged in any manner of social experiments over the past several years, and many to (unforeseen) ill effects.  By all means, we should indeed be more prudent in crafting our future.
