Dave, Dave, Dave
It seems the flare-up over David Letterman's lame effort to make the Palin family the butt of sleazy humor isn;t going away.
I think other commenters have pretty much covered the waterfront on this. In regards to Willow Palin, I like the idea of sending Todd on the show. Sadly, the aging Letterman seems to be slowly going Don Imus before our eyes.
But there are a couple of points here.
First, and this may bother the chattering class Republicans, it's clear this all got going because Sarah Palin is now the nation's "conservative celebrity." Like I said, I don't think Mitt Romney gets hounded for autographs at the ballpark.
So don;t think this whole thing wasn;t planned by Letterman. What better way to promote his show now that Conan O'Brien is the new alternative than to manufacture a scandal. And you need to pick on someone "bigger" than you to draw enough attention to make it matter. Voila! press coverage!
Of course, since I think thas shows Palin is "bigger" than Letterman that means of course she would be dimininishing herself by appearing on his show. She's be better off dealing with the likes of Jon Stewart, who has a younger and more engaged audience anyway.
Now to the other people dissed by Dave. Flight Attendants.
Dave seems to have his mind stuck in some cheezy Rat Pack movie from the late 1960's where some femme fatale in an airline uniform was making moves on Dean Martin. Far from being relevant today, it makes Letterman out like Austin Powers.
The real flight attendants are well-trained professionals. And hmm, they deal occassionally with rather tough problems. Sure, Sully landed the plane. The flight attendants got it evacuated.
And guess what. My Governor, Jodi Rell, is a former flight attendant.
The eggheads in the CT Democratic party used to snicker about the state being run by a clueless stewardess. Used to. This pretty much stopped after she crushed their guy John DeStefano like an SUV crushes a latte cup.
Dave abandoned CT awhile back so he could enjoy the joys of the Empire State. You could come back Dave. The New Canaan cops need to write more speeding tickets. Maybe you could appeal to the Governor for leniency. Or maybe not.
He might also want to use private jets, too. Who knows what a fight attendant might do by "accident".

There is a difference between
There is a difference between a comedian and a buffoon. Letterman looks clumsy and out of touch. I doubt he will be making jokes about any of the Obama girls getting "knocked up". And his explaination makes no sense. He says he was referring to Palin's 18 tear old daughter, but the 14 year old attended the game.
Palin captures it perfectly, Letterman is "pathetic".
I'm sure Letterman will be hearing from the National Organization for Women about his sexual stereotyping of flight attendents . . .
every comedian (even Colbert) screws a joke sometimes
Letterman doesn't write many of his own jokes, I'd wager. The man at fault is a writer, and he failed to do some research. Letterman thought he was telling a different joke than he apparently was telling.
Stupidity is not malice, but it still deserves a freaking smackdown. Hoping NOW will be on this, STAT.
(also, most jokes offend. or have you not heard of The Aristocrats? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Aristocrats_(film))
I'm Amazed
NOW did weigh in on this.
I woulod never have thought they would come down on Palin's side of anything.
Yes I am familiar with the Aristocrat joke. Gilbert Godfrey does a great version.
rape jokes, no matter how funny, are not acceptable.
particularly on something family oriented like Letterman. They serve to normalize a filthy and dehumanizing act. ANYONE of sound mind and body should be criticizing Letterman for it!
(I have actually seen decent rape jokes... they start with the premise that "this is a horrible thing"... anything can be made funny, but some things should only turn a certain way, if you know what I mean ;-)
rofl. Palin would be chewed up by Jon Stewart and spit out.
Just start by rolling the clips where she refuses to say that abortion clinic bombers are terrorists.
I'm not Jon, and I don't write for his show, but even I can script shit like:
"Do you, or do you not, know what a terrorist is?"
"Do you agree that the guy who shot someone at the Holocaust Museum is a terrorist?"
"If he's a terrorist, and he hasn't killed any government officials, then what's the difference between him and the man who killed a doctor for being a gynecologist?!"
Jon's the interviewer, and he controls the questions. With Palin on, they'd be guaranteed to be funny... but they wouldn't be softballs.
LoserDave
What happened to common decency? Oh...sorry, I forgot....we're talking Democrats and liberals here...
What happened to the idea (before the Bush twins) that a national political figure's children were to be left alone and not bothered?
What Letterman and other liberals in the media don't understand (but they will soon!) is that the constant barrage and attacks on Palin's children (following after the lampoons and cynical jabs at the Bush twins and Cheney's lesbian daughter) has left Fox with validation to go after anything President Obama's daughters might do in the future, if the opportunity arises. Any parties, boyfriends, drinking, clubs, associations or photos taken with the wrong crowd are now, open season on the Obama children for Fox.
Thanks, liberals!
If the thought of making fun, lampooning and belittling the President's lovely children makes your blood boil, you can thank Dave (and others) and thier respective liberal writing staffs.
When it happens (not if- Fox will do it, with this precedent), the left leaning media can look in the mirror and only blame themselves.
If I were the Palins, I wouldn't go near Letterman's show. Why boost his ratings? He (and Conan) are doing a fine job of sinking Dave on his own.
you mean John Sidney McCain calling Chelsea a bastard
begat out of the line of Janet Reno wasn't enough? it took going after a holier-than-thou parent who said, if her daughter got pregnant, "I Would Chose Life?" (note: not her family, not her daughter. Sarah Palin herself).
For the Record...
...Todd Palin should put Letterman in the Hospital.
