Do you agree with these sentiments?

" Well, certainly John McCain is incrementally better than Barack Obama, including on the kind of social issues that my friend Mike Huckabee, by the way, if he were running, I wouldn't be sitting here, I'd be championing Mike Huckabee. But as a Republican, I've been terribly disappointed. We've had these promises from John McCain and George W. Bush before, and they didn't deliver. They took conservatives for granted and went along with K Street. I'm tired of being taken for granted. I'm tired of the family farmers and the ordinary working people of this country, by the way, getting stiffed - and particularly the  people born in this country getting stiffed. That's why I think we finally have got to take a break and get out there and get back to the grassroots level, get out of the Wall Street suites and back into the streets of ordinary people and build a new politics. And I hope this ends up in the Republican Party, but if we don't take that break now, we're going to be right back in 2012 waiting for the same thing. "

Note: some names have been changed to protect those who weren't innocent, just very, very naive.

Brilliant

Of course, for your brillant analogy to work, the Dems should have been destroyed for thinking this way, instead of which they are whipping the Republicans like a rented mule. Which seems to suggest it's not such an unproductive way to think after all.

I doubt very much any liberals think

letting Bush go to war in Iraq and appointing Roberts and Alito was worth doing well in the '06 and '08 elections.

But then again, all of them now have the jaundiced eye of a crusty Cook County ward boss, while many on the Right want to play intellectual games

What will be the Obama equvilent for us of the Iraq War for the Left? The Iranian destruction of Israel? Or maybe something less extreme, like a coup in Baghdad imposing a Teheran puppet in charge. Or maybe we'll have a national law mandating drivers' licenses for undocumented arrivals., Jeez, I just can;t wait to find out

I think they do.

Liberals never gave a damm about the Iraq war. it was simply a convienent club to hit Bush with.

You are wrong, as usual. They seek power for specific ends. You seek it for no particular reason other than it's there, and to keep them from getting it. That's why they are winning. You can't beat something with nothing, and the Dems at least stand for something. Even his staunch defenders have trouble coming up with reasons to back McCain.

Let's see- he's not Obama. And he was a POW about forty years ago. And that's about it.

The other thing that isn't self contradictory in that post

is you hate McCain more than Obama. Message received.
