If we are going to have a Car Czar, why not Mitt?
Evdently everyone has agreed to a "Car Czar" to dole out the $15 billion Big Three Bailout

Well, one man is going to play a huge role on whether America has an effective manufacturing economy in 10-15 years time.
I do not think someone who ran the labor union that contributed to the mess , or the lawyer who doled out checks to 9/11 widows is the optimal choice here.
We need someone with a proven record of rescuing (albeit painfully) troubled businesseshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney#Business_career .and who has the political chops to maneuver through the minefield out there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney#Turning_around_the_2002_Winter_Olympics.
Being able to deal with lots of Democrats is a plus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governorship_of_Mitt_Romney particularly on thorny health care issues. and this man should be deeply tied to the sucess of the state of Michigan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney#Early_life_and_education
Mitt Romney should be the Car Czar
Far fetched for Team Obama to accept this--any more than having Hillary as Secretary of State?

Comments
Definitely more farfetched
you've yet to say what Obama would get out of this... (although it's far from the worst idea I've heard)
Everyone knows what Obama got out of SoS Clinton -- or they should, as it's a good view of his strategic mindset.
I couldn't agree more
He is definitely competent enough and I think he would be the least divisive for both ownership, management and employees to accept. So really not to far fetched.
Ironman I only check out this site for your commentary ... and of course...
to tell RisingTide that I am more frugal than she is.
*sticks out my tongue at you*
PROOOVE it!
(i'm in a remarkably silly and immature mood. please smile!)
Obvious Obama upside for picking Romney to be 'car czar'
takes out a GOP competitor in 2012, since Romney will be busy for at least 2-3 years, burnishes a 'bipartisan appointment' on a matter thats apolitical and wouldnt be in the unseemly 'patronage' mode that the Gov Blago just got indicted on.
And it burnishes the 'find the best guy for the job' credential. Because the fact is, there is not a single person, other than say wheeling Lee Iaccoca out of retirement, who you could put in there to do a better job. Mitt Romney is the right man for this particular job and I think he is patriotic and willing to do it.
... and of course if things go wrong, Obama gets to blame ... a Republican.
Lots of upside.
PS. Put McCain in as Dept of Defense head, put Kucinich in as head of Peace Corps, make Mike Gravel postmaster general, and put Ron Paul as head of Federal Reserve while you are at it ... there, Obama's taken out all the other contenders. ;-)
I'd take lee iaccoca in a heartbeat.
I know where that man invests, and he's got vision!
I'd love to see where Iaccoca would take the big 3....
Lee is a bit up in years now
But otherwise he would work. But I think the GOP should push for Mitt's appointment.
I presume that Obama will choose a less qualified person who will kowtow to the unions and the greens. Since making them take a "haircut" is essential to a profitable auto industry http://thenextright.com/ironman/can-hope-change-a-spark-plug I think we then will be in a good position to explain why the car czar failed.
Yup, win/win to propose Mitt Romney
Either Obama picks Mitt Romney and he does a good job, or Obama goes for someone far far less competent and capable to do the job.
Either way, the Republicans will be able to crow on the competence front.
