Obama-Dodd 2008--We're so great the banks cut our interest rate!!!

I think this headline sorta speaks for itself, dontcha, think?

from this morning's Washington Post

Obama received lower-interest loan for mansion

His mortgage rate secured in '05 may add to a debate on whether officials' deals from lenders are illegal gifts.

Shortly after joining the U.S. Senate and while enjoying a surge in income, Barack Obama bought a $1.65-million restored Georgian mansion in an upscale Chicago neighborhood. He secured a $1.32-million mortgage from Northern Trust in Illinois.

The freshman Democratic senator received a discount. He locked in an interest rate of 5.625% on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage at a time when such loans in Chicago averaged as much as 6%. The loan was unusually large, known in banker lingo as a "super super jumbo." Obama paid no origination fee or discount points, as some consumers did to reduce their interest rates

I found a comparable home on Zillow.com http://www.zillow.com/HomeDetails.htm?zprop=3985017. Note that such a house is worth more than 99% of the homes in the state of Illinois today.

Northern Trust's current rate for a 30 year fixed jumbo mortgage within the city of Chicago is as follows

Northern Trust Co   06/25/08 7.625 7.635 $1,250 0.000/
0.000
$9,201

So Senator Obama is now paying 200 basis points below current market on his mortgage...SWEET!!!!!

We can all hope our mortgage banker can change our mortgage rates that way. Though the savings on Ironman's tract colonial would be a pittance compared to what the Obama's saved on their castle.

So, perhaps Senator Dodd would be a great running mate for Senator Obama

They both believe United States Senators are entitled to "enhanced customer service" on their mortgages. http://www.thenextright.com/ironman/chris-dodd-oh-what-a-tangled-web-we-weave

It also explains Senator Obama's radio silence on this question....

Now certaintly someone selling "hope" and "change" would be expected to sound off on this sort of sleaze, you would think.

Nope. Not a peep. Since Chris Dodd was on the Obama train early, far from calling for an investigation, Senator Barack Obama has maintained radio silence over the entire debacle

As an aside, isn;t it a bit ironic that over the past few days John McCain has been attacked for his place of residence during the late 1960's. Oh, how the worm turns.
