Sonia SCOTUS Support swooning?

Recent polls show the support for SCOTUS nominee Sonya Sotomayor is rather soft, with a small plurality supporting her confirmation.

I suspect that much of the general public became aware of the Ricci v. DeStefano decision, and favored the plantiffs, who prevailed before the Supreme Court.

Hopefully the early, over-the-top rhetoric from Rush and Newt doesn't deter Republican senators from doing a thorough job of ascertaining Judge Sotomayor's attitudes as related to multiculturalism, the second amendment, and judicial activism.

The public will accept the Republicans doing a "teach-in" on the role of the Supreme Court. And while it may be impossible to stall this nominee given the present margin of Senate control, we absolutely need to set a marker for any future nominee and meekly saluting him or her won;t do.

Different parites may have

Different parites may have different views to Obama's apointee let's just hope that Sotomajor won't fail the expectation of the people. Let give her a chance to prove herself. With Democrats in control of the Senate, the GOP just does not have the numbers to keep Sotomayor off the bench .Regardless of how the base views her opinions on abortion or the death penalty, anyone who might have an issue before the court is loath to antagonize a woman who'll likely be deciding their cases.Sherri Goforth has gone forth and gotten in trouble by emailing a racist cartoon to friends and colleagues. She's been reprimanded, but doubtless Republicans would give cash advances to make racist associations and Sherri Goforth go away.

Spam

It's sad when there's more spam comments than regular people on this site. She will be confirmed, and republicans are set to lose the signigicant gaines they made in hispanic americans. She's moderate and competant. Snipping at one decision over a very long career is merely "playing politics". This is how republicans are going to keep losing: opposing whatever is 'Democrat'. She's already been vetted, the confirmation is merely a show for indiviual constituencies.

Does ethnic background make a difference about my rights?

Like , if an Anglo judge takes away my house or my guns, should I be more concerned than if a black or hispanic judge does it?

I actually think Judge Sotomayor meets the requsite qualifications for the Supreme Court. And there are decisions such as Doninger  where I agree with her and most liberals don't; which is the mirror image of Ricci. That said, no one should get a lifetime appointment without having to explain what they are going to do with it.

Everytime I hear "Supreme

Everytime I hear "Supreme Court" mentioned, I picture a regular court, but with sour cream, extra tomatoes & costing 50 cent more. I miss Nannie.
