Tony Snow, 1955-2008 R.I.P.
by Ironman | July 12, 2008 at 7:01 AM
Tony Snow has lost his long battle with cancer.
He will be long remembered as someone who brought energy and enthusiasm to the thankless task of trying to undo the damage to the President's image--and to the image of the Republicans and conservatives----created by his predecessor, the tongue tied Texas turncoat.
I'm a fan of the Tim McGraw song "Live like you were dying". Did the knowledge his life was short make Tony Snow do more with the time he had? I dunno, but we ought to appreciate what he accomplished in a life cut short

RIP, Tony
Tony Snow will be missed--his death is so tragic. Although he did live his life to fullest--he was a wonderful White House spokesman. RIP
I will miss him so much
This is the way I want to remember Tony Snow, who I will always recall as one of the sweetest, kindest, least divisive political commentators in the industry:
I was disappointed when he decided to help the White House as their Press Secretary because he'd no longer be available to keep me company on the long commute home. Tony and Hugh Hewitt have always been my mainstay talk radio pundits because both of them have that quality that some people call 'Midwestern Nice'. I came to appreciate 'Midwestern Nice' so much as a college student at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and later at Purdue University in West Lafayette (we used to call it Laugh-a-lot) Indiana. It's not unique to people in the Heartland, but it's very prevalent there. John Kasich and Tim Pawlenty share it, as do several here on The Next Right (you know who you are!). It's an attitude of humble good humor, which bears no animosity or rancor towards one's fellows whether they're adversaries or allies.
Knowing how nice Tony was because I listened to him for several years, it really highlighted the death of decency in our culture when the community at the Huffington Post chose to wish him many negative thoughts. I'm sure that if Tony ever read them, he felt sorry for the people whose hearts were two (or more) sizes too small.
Interestinglly and decently enough, comments for previous posts on Tony's health watch and today's announcement of his death have all been completely deleted and closed at the Huffington post. The Daily Kos, to their credit, have responded for the most part in a measured, respectful way. Not, for example, like they did for Jesse Helms...
My thoughts and prayers to the Snow family
My condolences to the Snow family.
It was amazing to see Mr. Snow speak about his illness over the past few years. Despite what must have been a doubt-filled and intimidating time in his life, he spoke about it openly, honestly and with a confident bravery.
His strength was an example the rest of us can only hope to emulate.
A Great American he was!
We will all miss Tony, he was a true conservative with a heart of gold. My only personal encounter with him was at the 2004 RNC Convention in NYC. He posed for a picture with me. What a Great American!
Condolances but Tony Snow was an enabler
The Republican Party will never get back to being conservative until ever member of the Bush ADministration is out of politcs and governing permanantly. Tony Snow was an enabler for the incompetence and stupdity of the Bush Administration. I doubt if Mr. Snow ever told the president that he was being short sighted, that his plan was incomptent, and that things needed to be done differently.
The only Repubicans who worked in the Bush White House who have any crediblity are the ones who resigned in disgusted at the incompetence and the failures.
Condolences BUT...?
What a mean-spirited post.
Congratulations, you've just joined the ranks of the Daily Kos, the L.A. Times and the Associated Press, whose obituary for Tony Snow was aptly described by Patterico in his post AP Urinates on Tony Snow's Memory.
I'm all for being a total jacktard in the right venue, which I usually define as the local watering hole, sports venue or my private property. But why would you ever want to act like one to the memory of a really decent dead guy online, where information lasts forever, before he's even been buried? Isn't it a little late to give Tony Snow a performance review this week? What if his family and friends come out here after their shock and grieving allows them to get back to browsing the Internet? Who raises guys like you? Wolves? Nah, wolves are more socially evolved.
It's disrespectful to the man, to his family, but mostly it's disrespectful to yourself. Respect yourself enough to be a decent person when someone dies and leave your big BUT out of the condolences, Dude.

I agree with the general sentiments expressed about Tony Snow. He was excellent. However,
I am one who also agrees with the sentiments expressed by Scott MacClellan. He did not damage the President's image---the President did that all by himself (with a little help from Rove perhaps).
