Racism and the Left
Submitted by Jon Henke on Tue, 08/26/2008 - 18:29
Bob Herbert says "many Democratic voters" are ambivalent about Obama because they are racist. The Hill says AFL-CIO leaders are worried that racism will prevent largely-Democratic Union members from voting for Obama. In fact, one AFL-CIO leader says racism is the only reason that the largely-Democratic Union workers might not vote for Obama.
Anybody else notice that all the "racism" stories seem to be about...Democrats?

Ironic
It would be tough to say if Obama would be getting more support if he was white because an unqualified person like himself would never have been nominated in the first place without locking up the African-American/guilty liberal vote.
Wasn't it just last month that the Obama people were bragging that they could flip southern states like Mississippi and Georgia based on increasing black turnout on the grounds Obama was black too?
All the racism stories are about Democrats
Of course, a factor in that is that almost all black politiicans are democrats.
If only the Republicans could build on the efforts of JC Watts & Michael Steele - but it seems that that is unlikely in the near future.
When Swann, Blackwell and Steele lost the reasons cited were..
1. The Republican party was not popular enough in their states that year
2. Their opponents ran effective campaigns
Obviously the Democrats are incapable of imputing the same motives to voters choosing not to support a black Democratic candidate.
Well, there's just one thing left to ask.
What would one call a party that supports different rights and opportunities for different people (race-based affirmative action) if not racist?
this mini post and comments highlights that racism
in America has been only partially overcome and the progress is taking place primarily on the left. The right seems to deny its existence and adds little insight to this complex problem.
Have you evidence for your claims?
Well?
Double Standard
1. When a black Republican loses, is its due to race-neutral decision making on the part of the voters
2. When a black Democrat loses it is due to racism on the part of people voting for Republicans?
There's a lot of words for this attitude, and progress isn't one of them
it seems clear to me racism is one factor no matter in which
party a candidate of color runs. Just out of curiousity anybody know or care to look up a party comparison of many people of color are seving in congress or as governors. I'm due at work and don't have time to support my arguement that more progress on racism is being made on the left.
Meeting AA quota's isn't "progress on racism"
How do you define "progress on racism" because meeting affirmative action quota's based on race aint it.
measuring progress on racism beyond me
and the scope of this thread. I was only attempting to refute the original implication that dems are more racist in their voting. My (wikipedia) research shows nearly all people of color currently serving in congress are dems.
What a superficial analysis
What a superficial analysis to make. You haven't proved anything by showing that Democrats vote for Democrats.
So, where were these people elected, and who voted for them?
What can a country achieve in 7 years?!?
What can a country achieve in 7 years?!?
"...the culmination of seven years of national investment, planning, concentrated state power, national mobilization and hard work."

"...Seven years ... Seven years ... Oh, that's right. China was awarded these Olympic Games on July 13, 2001 — just two months before 9/11."
And what have we done in the past 7 years. Entered into an unnecessary war in Iraq, and couldn't finish a war in Afghanistan. Budget surplus ,to record budget deficit. High employment and rising wages, to higher unemployment and lower or stagnant wages. World leaders to also-ran. From a shining city on the hill, to bitter national, racial and religious divide.
I'm not complaining. I take as much blame for the past 7 years. I, we, didn't do enough to make sure the administration changed in 2004. This year can be different.
Instead of complaining, I, we, can ask "what do I want the next 7 years to be like? What world, country, and future do I want to look back on in 7 years? And what candidate believes in what I believe in?"

I'm saying it now: President Barack H. Obama, Jr., 2009 - 2017
Loopy liberal statement
So racial and religious divisions only came into America in the last 7 years?!?
Justify this hallucination! And what "bitter . racial divide" exists that Obama wont make WORSE?!?
I'm saying it now: Your partisan statement is loopy.
BTW, its no biggie putting on an Olympics - LA and Atlanta both did it. Praising China is yet another uninformed stupid thing that Obama did. He loves his commie govts, gotta tell ya.
Slave labor helped build seven wonders
"...the culmination of seven years of national investment, planning, concentrated state power, national mobilization and hard work."
Yep, 1 party rule does wonders for national infrastructure. Just ask China, Nazi Germany, Mussolini's Italy... And hey, the pyramids were built with slave labor too.
5 & 1/2 YEARS!
That's right, my friends. And John McCain spent 5 & 1/2 years without playing the race card.
Am I clear: 5 & 1/2 YEARS!
That's a really, very long time.
What a persuasive
What a persuasive argument.
Of course, without showing us an example of McCain playing the race card, your argument is short on, hmmm, what are they called again, FACTS!
Keith, don't be silly.
We're talking about Liberals here. Since when have they valued facts over conjecture and accusation?
