Friday Recruiting Post

Okay, folks. It's Friday. Who do you want to run for Congress?

A few picks I like:

New York 24th: Richard Hanna. Self-described political amateur Hanna nearly beat Democrat Mike Arcuri, losing by only 10,000 votes. He deserves another shot.

New York 29th: Senator Cathy Young. Senator Young would be a top recruit, bringing a ton of political sense, fundraising skill and organization to the race. She would be an excellent contrast to Democrat Eric Massa.

North Dakota At-Large: Drew Wrigley. Wrigley's coming off a successful and popular term as U.S. Attorney. He's well-connected and knows how to run -- he managed Governor John Hoeven's first statewide campaign.

Personally?

I'm nominating myself for Congress.  I'm throughly disgusted by the lack of any attempt to campaign by Vince Micco - and even more disgusted by Steve Rothman, liberal blowhard extraordinaire.

I'm currently running my own little blog at http://realchangeandsense.blogspot.com, where I'm posting on issues of concern to residents of New Jersey.  One of my big concerns is transportation in New Jersey,  and as I point out clearly in a recent post, the Greenies want to steal the vast swaths of unused infrastructure and turn it into "rail trails" - as if the Garden State needed any more parks or trails!

I'm in the preliminary stages of the campaign right now but I'm going to run as a Republican if I can build enough support.

YES I CAN, NEW JERSEY!

California Senatorial race: Chuck Devore

Chuck is a former Reagan White House appointee to the Pentagon, worked over a decade in Aerospace, helped develop the Arrow Anti-Ballistic Missile program, served on Congressman Chris Cox's campaign, served as Irviine City Commissioner, and has represented the 70th District of California since 2004.  In addition to strong foreign policy expertise (including authoring a critically acclaimed novel called China Attacks), his legislative committee assignments are: Vice Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.  Chuck refused to bend to the torturous lockdown of the California Assembly and continued to vote no on higher taxes and press for limited spending - to no avail, thanks to his Republican colleague, Abel Maldonado - the Arlen Specter of Santa Cruz.

Chuck's opposing Barbara Boxer, who runs true to the overall Democratic trend of failure to pay taxes, fiscal corruption and shady shenanigans.  In 1992 she was one of the top 24 Senators who bounced checks from accounts they held at the so-called "House Bank" -- a loose operation that allowed member of Congress to cash their checks but kept shoddy records and often were quite delayed in recording deposits or withdrawals.  Boxer wrote 143 bad checks totaling $41,417 over a three-year period on the House bank.

given California's changing demographics

can a white male from Orange County get a fair hearing statewide these days?

What's this, postmodern neoracist pessimism?

Boxer represents the southern portion of the state, where Chuck has a great local reputation and there are several Red Counties such as San Diego, Riverside and Imperial. The last two have had horrible home foreclosure meltdowns and we've all suffered so many layoffs that it's now possible to commute at peak hours with absolutely no traffic congestion anywhere - a sort of really depressing benefit, if you will.

It's kind of ironic that I happened to trip across Boxer's bad check writing spree in 1992 by sheer serendipity, but I think that sort of history could be used quite effectively in a campaign that pits fiscal stupidity and waste against fiscal integrity and good stewardship.  But then again, of course you may be right (you often are).  I just hope that in Southern California in 2010, you're not.  ;-)

Just askin

There are reasons why a guy named Treadwell got 38% in NY 20 and a guy named Tedisco got 50%. There are more Italians in upstate NY than WASP's ,despite the stereotype. (Rachael Ray is a native of this district)

Boxer isn't even a particularly bright or creative liberal. But we know she'll milk feminism for everything in the well and that's something we will need to offset.

Keep posting the good advice, Ironman

I linked this post to Chuck via Twitter. What do you advise in terms of "offsetting feminism"?

Wish I knew

I'm afraid a "shot and a beer" Irish male familiar with suburban CT, the outer boroughs and upstate NY is not the optimal resource on that topic.

Neither is an antifeminist female IT professional

Rather than providing us more liberty, more options, or more respect, I think the feminazi movement has done more to keep women single or divorced, financially insecure (married couples tend to have more financial security), lonely, unhealthy and snarky - much like I think the cause of racial justice has done more to keep people of color poor, unemployed, financially insecure and dependent on the government.  All these things sound fine when it's all talk, but when the actions alienate people from living a fulfilling (usually boring, middle class, bourgeois) life, the movements don't really further the causes at all.

Looks like Chuck's gonna have to figure this one out on his own...
