Not sellouts

I don't necessarily think these individuals are sellouts. The bailout bill is an atrocity, no question about that. I think a great many House members, seeing the choice as between the devil or a plunge into the deep blue sea, chose the former.

Sadly, this 700 billion is just the downpayment, and we will be supping with the devil for a good long time, quite possibly with an Obama Sec of Treasury running the show.

Where I would judge these reps, is do they lay down a marker next time up, and work to dismantle the GSE's, and tell their leadership upfront not to play the crisis card next time -- a bad bill, no votes.

I'm so disappointed to see Hoekstra and Shadegg on this list

Hoekstra and Shadegg were on board for the #dontgo House protest over Nancy Pelosi blocking an up or down vote on the American Energy Act, so I had hoped they'd stay the course on their "no" votes.

My hubby and I had a discussion about this over coffee - I said the bailout was like putting gold plate over rotten termite-infested timber.  He said that when the garage is on fire, we should put out that fire to save the whole house rather than let the house burn to the ground.

Am I wrong here?  I would love to be.  I'm sure that the White Star Line wishes that Captain Edward John Smith would have made the right decision to plow the Titanic straight into the iceberg rather than turn too slowly and too late, thus irrevocably and fatally undermining the entire ship and the lives of all onboard.  I'm quite sure.

Based on the market responses, and the latest from our governor asking for a $7BN bailot for Crapiformia, I think this bill might have been too little, too late, and now we're stuck with it anyway.  I think my husband's government job is in extreme jeopardy at the moment, and I'd much rather have seen no bailout, an extension on unemployment benefits, extended FDIC insurance and a whole new approach to reform, oversight, and new jobs spring up around energy and high tech to replace the ones which will be lost.  We can recover from our job losses, but we'll never recover from a culture of socialism once it rots away the entire foundation of our free market, capitalist system.
