Where are the traditional democrats?

Every time I see a pro Obama bumper sticker on a car in traffic, I can’t help but wonder about the driver. I wonder if they are embarrassed to have people see the sticker. I wonder if they forgot it was there, or else they would have removed it. I just can’t understand why anybody would be proud of Obama at this point, and especially how anybody would boast of being a supporter at this point. If I had voted for him, I would want to keep that quiet. Do they really not know that other drivers around them are leaning to get a look at them while shaking their heads and wondering, “What is wrong with you?” or “What were you thinking?” I can’t help but wonder if maybe it isn’t their car and they are just hoping nobody sees them in it.

Where are the decent, rational, thinking, freedom loving Democrats? I know they are out there. Do any of them have the guts to stand up and be counted? Of that I’m beginning to wonder. I cannot imagine that there are not great numbers of every day Americans who also happen to be Democrats that are deeply concerned with the direction President Obama is leading our country. We can debate conservative versus liberal ideology all day long, and I’m happy to do that. But this runaway train led by Obama is beyond all that.

This administration is trying to fundamentally change America. Obama is a radical leftist, a statist. He has surrounded himself with radical statists. He has stated his desire to remake America. The point of this piece is not to define the agenda of the Obama administration. That is being done all over the place, and thank God for that. I want to know if and when mainstream Democrats are going to wake up, stand up, and reject this garbage. Obama told the American people that if they wanted to know who he was, to look at the people he had surrounding him. Okay, we looked, and it stinks. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, ACORN, the radicals and tax cheats in his cabinet and czar positions, and more.

How obvious does it have to be? When is the evidence overwhelming enough? Democrats, your party has been hijacked. It’s been happening for a long time, but it has reached critical mass. Nobody gets to sit on the fence any more. You are either part of the solution, or you are part of the problem.

At this point in the Obama administration’s tenure, I can see only three possibilities for why democrats have not joined the chorus against the statist crusade.

1)      they are ignorant

2)      they are apathetic

3)      they are true believers

It’s hard to imagine anyone truly being ignorant with all the information available, although dependence on the mainstream media will certainly leave one ignorant. But there is just too much being said and written to not at least get some sense of what direction things are going. I include those who may still be deluded as to Obama’s real agenda as being in the ignorant category, but that excuse is getting very thin, very quickly. Apathy is worse than ignorance. At least ignorance is an excuse, albeit a lazy one. To be apathetic at this point is to be devoid of passion for anything. If it doesn’t matter to you yet, you may want to check for a pulse. True believers can at least be credited for taking a side. That’s about all they can get credit for, but it’s something.

So where are the reasonable, non radical, America loving democrats? We, the opposition, welcome you. We need you. Find your voice, find your conviction, find your courage, and stand up for America.

In the weeks and months after September 11, 2001, it didn’t matter much if we were Republicans or Democrats, conservative or liberal, what mattered was that we were Americans. America had been attacked and we rallied together to defend her. Well, America is under attack again. Not our buildings, not our very lives, but our principles, our values, and our way of life. Our traditions, our history, the very things that have made America great are being dismantled by this administration. It is time for Americans to once again stand together and defend her. Lose the bumper sticker and get a flag.

Character counts

Why do people like Barack Obama? Because it is refreshing to see a major politician who acts like an adult.

You've previously posted your defense of the indefensible - Joe Wilson's childish and quite probably race-hate-motivated outburst during Obama's speech. Now consider Obama's extremely gracious reaction: he simply accepted his apology, said anyone can make a mistake, and suggested that it would be better for everyone if there was less vitriol and name calling.

Meanwhile, Wilson's opponent has raised $1 million without lifting a finger.

You have completely misread where the center is.

What flavor is the kool aid tonight?

Mead, you're always good for changing the topic and then responding to the new topic, rather than addressing the topic at hand, but even for you this is off the wall. I haven't said a word about Joe Wilson's outburst, pro or con, in this or any other post.

But since you brought it up - Wilson was out of line. Factually, he was correct, Obama was lying. But decorum should have led him to wait until the speech was over before challenging the president, and then only outside of the chamber. Just as it should have prevented the booing of George Bush by the juvenuile democrats during his speeches. But I'm sure you found that behavior righteously justified. And where on earth did race come into the equation?

And by the way, I couldn't care less about the middle or where it is. Being in the middle means you haven't either the guts or the intelligence to take a stand or to pick a side. The time for cowardly fence sitting is over. I'm interested in being on the right side, not finding the middle. Now please stop swooning over the extreme graciousness of the Chosen One, it's demeaning.

Read for comprehension

You say you can't understand why people like Barack Obama. I'm giving you an example of why people like Barack Obama. And mostly it is because he doesn't stoop the level of this generation of GOP office holders, who just get more and more embarrassing every day.

If you don't understand what role race played, I guess you haven't bothered to read anything about Wilson's background before you decided to adopt him as your cause.

Being in the middle means you haven't either the guts or the intelligence to take a stand or to pick a side.

What rubbish. You are saying that the right answers are to be found in the fringes, that leadership comes from extremists. That is simply not true. As with your previous post about "Die Hard", you continue to demonstrate that you live in a fantasy world divorced from reality.

Typing slower this time...

I'll type slowly so maybe you can get it this time. Where exactly did you determine that I had adopted Wilson as my cause? As I wrote earlier - my post had nothing to do with that topic. I've had nothing to write on that topic other than my response above to your query from left field. And in that response, I said he was wrong. He was out of line. That means I disagree with his action. From that you decide I've adopted Wilson as my cause. And I'm the one divorced from reality. Once again, you change the subject and make it up as you go happily along. Good luck with that.

Wilson is relevant to the topic

Wilson and his boorish behavior is directly relevant to the topic of why people like Obama - they like him becasue idiots like Wilson make him look good.

It is a "teachable moment" - which is passing you by.  This is a simple case of Wilson being in the wrong and Obama doing the right thing, and yet you cannot bring yourself to acknowledge it. You have to twist it into, on the one hand, "Wilson was the correct" and "the Democrats once booed George W Bush, and therefore it is OK." And then on the other hand, with regard to Obama, you can't concede he did the right thing, so you all you can do is bitch about "swooning over the extreme graciousness of the Chosen One".

I guess that is what a proud extremist like yourself  do: twist even the simplist of realities into new shapes that sit comfortably with your extremist positions. And take every situation - every single last one of them - and try to twist it so that it is a "win" for "our side".

In the meantime, there is the great mass of people in the middle who like Obama more simply becasue he isn't like people like you.

Here is the point. Bush was so bad, it didn't make any difference in who was elected president. If the republicans did not care about deficits and debt, about jobs going overseas and cities and states going broke, the neglect of the infrastructure, a war on a lie with only 170,000 troops for two wars and the wars not paid for, ignorance, arrogance, lies, blunders, 4 amendments of the constitution, a vice-president who said "deficits don't matter", a president who says "free trade is good and watches our jobs go overseas, a president who said "America has no problems" at the olympics, the religious right, neoconism, corporate fascism, and laissez-faire; then what is the point?

Who cares? If the republicans don't care and Blimpball and Hannity keeps talking and ignoring our problems and only want to bash the other party, then it makes no difference to me.

It is the republcans that are ignorant, that are apathetic, and that are the true believers in a lot of bunk.

Now, if you want to run the country, then invest in your country, in your people, and in the future.

 And here is something else

And here is something else with globalization. We have seen for over 30 years in what the Japanese did to out auto industry, textiles, steel, and electronics. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand we will compete with third world labor from Mexico, China, India, and other places.

Here is some articles. Now, the question is; What can be done about this? I do not ask for protectionism, but we still have to invest in our country, in our people, and in the future as we lose the jobs to third world countries.

Now, can we face up to reality? Or do we sit around with laissez-faire and do nothing?

Why didn't Obama nationalize banking?

If we accept the thesis that Obama is a committed statist, how do we account the fact that he has not nationalized the banking system? Many on the left including Nobel laureate Krugman were calling for nationalizing the failing money center banks. Instead Obama chose to bail them out on terms very favorable to the shareholders and executives--Buffet's deal with Goldman is draconian compared to Geithner's. How does this fit your thesis that Obama is a committed statist?

My feeling is that we conservatives have so far overreacted to what has been a fairly mainstream if somewhat left-leaning consensus response to quite dire crises in finance and the broader economy. Remember, TARP is a Bush-era program and Geithner was Paulson's right-hand man at the New York Fed. In short, Obama's policies, despite our rhetoric, are not ripped from the pages of Marx and Lenin.

I think we need to cool it down a couple of notches.

Sorry, no retreat

I disagree. I think the opposition is counting on our cooling it down. I, for one, don't intend to. Trying to compromise with these people is doing nothing but moving in their direction. This is a fight. I'm not fighting to try and lessen the harm, I'm fighting to win. I want our side to be the one inflicting the "damage". The gloves are off. I say leave them off.

The democrats didn't cool it down with judges Bork and Thomas. The didn't back off of Bush over Iraq. They didn't condemn the movie depicting the assassination of George Bush. On and on it goes. They know how to play hardball - it's time to show we know how to play, too.
