‘STEELE’ing a Victory: The Michael Steele Campaign for GOP Chairmanship

‘STEELE’ing a Victory: The Michael Steele Campaign for GOP Chairmanship      Maryland politics has a rich history of firsts in this Country. From the 1831 Anti-Masons party, nominating committee convention, which eventually led to the Jackson Democrats to hold America’s first major nominating convention, here in Baltimore. This event, in 1832, was held at the historic Fifth Regiment Armory. To the 1912 Presidential nominating convention for Democrats, where it took 46 ballots, for the eventual Presidential candidate, New Jersey Governor Woodrow Wilson to defeat Champ Clark, the Speaker of the House in Congress, from Missouri. In which he later went on to become America’s 28th United States President, and serve for 8 years until 1921. From the 1932, Maryland State Governor, Albert Ritchie’s, losing Presidential campaign to Franklin D. Roosevelt, to the first African-American Maryland Lt. Governor, Michael Steele, in 2002. Wow! Seventy years after a Governor’s run for the highest office in the land, we finally get a black Lt. Governor?! (Too much time wasted in between and still seeking the first black Governor) Well now we have that same monumental, history changing man, seeking to become the first African-American of the GOP (Grand Ole Party) to hold the title of National Party Chairman. The Prince George’s native is use to becoming the first in a multitude of fields. From the first black Republican Party chair for Maryland, to the first black Lt. Governor of this great state (MD.)! However, as once said by the great Reginald F. Lewis that he is “not just a black successful businessman, but successful none the less!” Mr. Steele is more than just a black Republican first; he is the most qualified and distinguished man, or woman, to hold these posts, period! The Man of Steele, an attorney and current GOPAC* chair, has a lot to be thankful about, as well as a stellar resume to justify the post he seeks, however he isn’t the only one in the race. *(Good Ole Political Action Committee) Also seeking the post to restore this dysfunctional group of individuals is a number of party chairs and others, from around the country. First starting with the current GOP Chair Mike Duncan, who has said that these, lights and cameras super-star celebrity candidates, have no real sense of how things should be done, in order to move this party forward. He is the behind-the-scenes type of nuts and bolts supervisor, who believes that less ideology and more modern technology and hard work, will be the most effective way to turn around this ‘sinking ship’. Also opting for the post is Katon Dawson, the South Carolina party chair, who calls himself the “common sense conservative”. Then you have the ‘other black’ candidate in Kenneth Blackwell, the former Ohio Secretary of State, who believes the return to ‘limited government, traditional values and a strong defense philosophy is the answer. Next you have the young and tech-savvy Anuzis, the Lithuanian chair of a state party (I forgot which one), that believes that new and innovative technologies are the wave of the future and the way to dig this good ole boy network out of its deep grave, is through e-services. Now, with all these other potential picks, along with the problems of a minority party in both houses of Congress and a big portion of Senators and Representatives under investigation or indictment, retiring or losing their seats, whoever is chosen has a hell of a task ahead of them. Their ideas and proposals will only go but so far. They will most certainly need a like-minded staff and cooperative member base and law-abiding elected officials to pull this off. When I say that, I mean that, their task will most certainly be a Machiavellian-styled campaign of strategic planning, thinking and implementation, in order to obtain any amount of success in the upcoming 2, 4 or 6 years.  We can determine how the party sees their future and what direction they believe they should go by their January selection of one of the previously mentioned candidates, or someone not mentioned. I, obviously biased, believe in the leadership and qualifications of Mr. Steele, due to past encounters in which I had the opportunity to meet, speak with and work for him, during his US Senate campaign in 2006. (Only after Mr. Mfume lost the Primaries, because I was working for him until that tragic Democratic set-up lost!) Leaving behind the historic factor of race relations and leadership, especially needed in this party of exclusive Caucasian membership, I sincerely believe that the direction and style of leadership Michael would bring is unprecedented. His knowledge, youthfulness and respect will go a long way in not only offering new found leadership for the party, yet it shall and will speak to those who have a negative image of the GOP, left by Bush and crew! The new leadership must have the general public change their perception of Republican beliefs and ideologies and possibly join the rank and file. The branding of a NEW GOP is definitely what is needed and in order to do such, is with a NEW and fresh faced party and leader, who can speak the language of ALL Americans’, not just a select and ‘privileged’ few!

Republicans do not need quota blacks

One would think that after seeing Colin Powell stab Repulbicans in the back and after the scandals of quota blacks like Alphone Jackson, that Republicans would learn that quot blacks never, ever work out in the long run.

Having a quota black as the head of the Republicans who is a raving careerist, who is inarticulate, and who has such limited grasp of the issues is a terrible mistake.  After eight years of having a Republican president who was too lazy to read his briefing books, too stupid to understand what he read, and too inarticulate to be able to discuss the issues, why would the Republicans believe that putting such a person in charge of the party is going to help?

"Backstabbing" Colin Powell

In his endorsement of Obama, Powell made it clear that his choice was based on his belief that Obama represented change, and that country needed that change. So, do you really want to criticize a former Chairman of Joint Chiefs for putting country over party?

Powell put race ahead of politics

Colin Powell benefitted from being black. He would have never been a general, the national security advisor, CJCS, or Sec. of State if he had been white.  If Powell had been white with his political beliefs, he would retired from the ARmy as a Colonel and become a defense contractor. Powell jumped on the Republican bandwagon at the height of the Reagan years for career reasons.  NOw that the Republican Party is fading, Powell jumped right off and jump on the black bandwagon.  What else would anyone expect from a quota black?

So, Reagan made him Nat'l Security Advisor anyway?

So Ronald Reagan made him National Security Advisor despite the fact that he was not qualified for the job, just becasue he was black? Putting political correctness before country?

People like you will be the death of the Republican Party.

Bush and his associates killed the Republican Party

NextRightNando

Don't blame the people who keep pointing out that quota hires and racial pandering have killed the Republican Party.

I guess you blame the idiots in the Bush Administration who added $5 trillion to the national debt, who appoint a entire army of incompetents from Alphonse Jackson to Alberto Gonzales to Brownie.  Who may want to blame a president who was too stupid to understand the consequences of his actions and who ignorant to listen to advisors. You want want to blame fools like Karl Rove who still believes that pandering, racial set asides, and election gimmicks can make up for bad policies and lousy execution of those policies.

Please explain to me how stabbing McCain in the back for racial reasons is good for the Republican Party but asking conservatives to actually be conservatives is bad?

If the Republicans want to get the white suburban vote back, the Republicans need to abandon the idea of quota blacks in positions of authority and forget the idea of race based pandering to blacks and Hispanics.

Squirming

Can't help but notice you trying to change the subject. Your comments about Colin Powell are inexcusable - and, apparently, you know it.

Powell has a quota black in the Reagan Adminstration

Even the Reagan Adminisgtration pandered to blacks and Hispanics for no real benefit. Reagan appointted quota blacks like Powell and Reagan promoted open borders and unlimited immigration.  California is lost to the Republicans forever because Reagan supported amnesty for illegal aliens while refusing to secure the borders or limit chain migration.

As government spending and taxes continue to increase and people have to spend money on gated communities and private schools, you can think all of the Republicans from Reagan to the current president Bush.

The current Republican leaders loves to pander to minorities and fill their administrations with quota minorities because they are never impacted by the negative consequences of their own decisions.

Thank you Superdestroyer

Let the record show that you have confirmed you believe Colin Powell was NOT qualified to be National Security Adviser but Ronald Reagan appointed him to that post anyway because he wanted to pander to minorities and was willing to put politics and party above national security. In doing so you have demonstrated that you are not just a racist but also quite dim witted, and that you know nothing about recent history. This relieves the rest of us of the need to ever take anything you say seriously.

Compare Carlucci with Powell

If you compare the resume of Powell when he was named National Security Advisor with the previous NSA, Frank Carlucci) you will see that the main qualification that Colin Powell had for being National Security Advisor was that he was black.  He was not consider an authority on the issues, had not written on the issues, and did not a wide variety of experience on the issues.  However, he was black enough to count as a quota black for an administration that wanted to pander to minorities.

There you go again.

Saying that Reagan put racial politics ahead of national security.

To quote Bugs Bunny, "Eh, what a maroon."

Powell advanced because of race

There is not reason to believe that Reagan would have ever heard of Colin POwell let alone named him NSA if he had been white.  Colin Powell would never have made general if he were white.

Also, there is no denying that Reagan's policy of amnesty for illegal aliens and open borders and severely harmed the conservative movement in the U.S.   California is lost to the Republicans forever because millions of mexican voters like big government and high taxes paid for by whites and Asians.   Reagan and his advisors were too stupid to realize the long term impact of making millions of poor mexican into citizens.  It created millions of future automative voters for the Democratic party.

That is why Stelle is unfit to be involved in leading the Repubican Party.  He believes that the Repubican Party can maintain open borders and unlimited immigration and STelle refuses to add up the costs of pandering to blacks and Hispanics.  Stelle also has a failure at leading the Repubicans in Maryland and was a failure as LT. Governor.

If the Republicans want to put a non-white face out there, please find someone who has succedded in someothing instead of a quota black failure like Steele.

Not just raciist

Not just racist but quite stupid as well. Colin Powell was born in the 1930's and joined the Army in 1958. You might recall that back then being black wasn't the one way ticket to success that you seem to seem to think it is now. He had a White House Fellowship in 1973 - was that just Richard Nixon "pandering" to blacks"???

As for the Hispanic vote - GWB got more than 30% in 2000 and >40% in 2004 - so much for your automatic vote theory.

Bush did not get 40% of the Hispanics vote

the idea that Bush received 44% of the Hispanic vote has been debunked many times.  It is based upon faulty exit polling.  Even the Houston Chronicle who originally published the number has back off.  Bush received less than 40% of the Hispanic vote. That means that there is at least a 20% votiing gap among Hispanic voters.  www.emergingdemocraticmajorityweblog.com/donkeyrising/archives/000951.php

If you look up the biography of Colin Powell, you will see that he was passed over for protmotion to general and the results of the promotion board were sent back with the order that they promote a black man, thus, Colin Powell.  The definition of a quota black.

Keep telling yourself that Repubolicans can pander to blacks with quota blacks and see the number of blacks voting for Democrats stay at 95% while the number of whites who will consider voting for Republicans continue to go down.

After the eight years of incompetence of the Bush Adminsitration, merit must be the only basis of personnel selection for all Republicans.  Quotas, family members, and donors must stop expecting jobs from Republicans.

Correction: Latinos voted 45% for Bush in 2004

Here is a link to the LA Times exit poll data that says Latinos voted 45% for Bush.

Facts are stubborn things.

LAT Times poll was discredited

The LA Times exit polling has been stuided and been discredited.  I guess believing that pandering to Hispanics works is too good an idea to let reality get in the way.

www.lmu.edu/AssetFactory.aspx?did=20556

That means Bush's count was even higher.

That iem says the numbers were inflated in favor of KERRY - that means that Bush received even more than 45% of the Hispanic vote!!
