Looking for a Copy of Barry Goldwater's "Conscience of a Conservative"

Hey all.  A while back, on a day in St. Louis when I found Tim Geithner's bailout atrocity to be particularly offensive, I tweeted at Karl Rove that I was a Hopemonger on the fence, and asked him What is the one Republican text he would recommend to shift me Right?  He recommended Barry Goldwater's Conscience of a Conservative & the early Reagan radio tapes.  If anyone in the Washington, D.C. area has a copy of either I could borrow, or that they are looking to get rid of cheap, please let me know.  I intend to review Goldwater's book, and would love to give The Gipper a listen.

Cheers.

Hey Pablo, five words: it's free at public libraries. Mead50: stop spending other people's money, ok?

Bravo!

I applaud your over-the-topness.

I appreciate your point - it is probably available at your local library.

This is not something I would have thought of on my own because my "local" library is about half an hour away, and I value 2 hours of my time (an hour round trip to get the book and an hour round trip to return the book) at more than $12.95.

Mead50, do you ever "think on your own"?

It's a fair question given what you often post here.

JakeMountain1, we can't all be as "witty and charming"

as you.

analogy?

This is a great analogy for health care from Mead himself.   The public library doesn't/can't adequately cater to your needs, so you decide to actually pay for it yourself through a private, much more convenient and efficient option.  Novel concept.

Now imagine that the only way you could get said book, was to drive all the way to your public library and get on a waiting list because a bunch of other people want to check that book out too.   I think I would like to be able to hit up amazon as well.

Couldn't agree with you more

Couldn't agree with you more that the ideal situation is to have both the public and private option.

In the same way that Amazon is great at delivering cheap paperback copies of this reasonably popular book, for-profit health insurance companies are great at providing coverage for the millions and millions of Americans who don't have serious healthcare issues.  But there are other cases which require other recourses.

However - your third paragraph makes no sense. There have been public libraries on these shores since 1636, and they've never driven book sellers out of business. So when you say "Now imagine...." you are stating an absurd hypothetical.
