How Oil Drilling Galvanizes the Right

Three striking facts from today.

Newt Gingrich's Drill Now petition is now at over 1 million signatures.

The American Family Association sent out an alert to its massive list and got 400,000 letters sent to Congress for more oil drilling. Why is this important? In presentations, I often cite the AFA's monster list as the biggest on the Right. And in my years on their list, I've never seen them focus on anything other than social issues. Their focus on oil is a big, big deal.

And Jerome Armstrong is waving Democrats off this issue, with a telling anecdote about Charlie Crist's rather abrupt about-face on offshore drilling. 

A veteran of Florida politics who is not tied to Crist says the gas price-driven poll numbers justify the drilling flip-flop (justify in the political sense, that is):

"[After many years working in the state], I would have told you that it was the single issue that would never, ever, ever change. Ev-uh," says the source.

But "somewhere between $3.00 and $4.00, the [poll] number literally flipped upside down."

Every wing of the party is uniting behind this issue in a very viral, visceral way. The public is on our side. And Democrats are on the wrong side.

Time to twist the knife.

an issue the GOP can get behind and unite the party and the candidate....a slam dunk if there ever was one....can the GOP actually pull this off?  Newt's showing them the way IF they are smart enough to follow his lead.....there is no flip flop here this is economics 101

But this is something that has struck a nerve with every single person I've brought it up to. And I live in Seattle - just left of an original statue of Lenin.

 

(Ok, so I don't talk politics with everyone I meet in the street, but still.)

 

This is a 70-30 issue. Actually bring it up with coworkers, random people at the gas station, wherever. We can do activism. Not Sam Adams style activism (with a gas protest, that might be a little too volatile!), but this is something that resonates a hell of a lot more than the crazies flinging poo at the police.

?SO DEMS....HOw long did it take for the Alaskan pipeline to be Built ??

5 or 10 Years...?   Well, It only took 2 Years..and if we CANNOT DRILL our way to cheaper Gas, maybe we can just PUMP our way to cheaper Gas....

Maybe the Dems just DON"T LIKE Cheap GAS ?   They certainly have SUCCEEDED in doing what's never been done.

And Can a Well be Drilled and be pumping in ONE MONTH ?

and consider what other issues have shifted based on an economic scenario of high fuel prices, high food prices, and falling home values.

The GOP establishment  in DC still thinks the public expects "bipartisan solutions" to "do something". This means they join with the majority to pass ethanol subsidies and bank bailouts. ......which the public is not too dumb to figure out costs them money so Congress can pay favored industries.

You would think an 11% approval rating might suggest full throat opposition might be more popular with the voters?, eh?

This is one of the biggest issue which is to be notified carefully. This scenario is very much important and should taken care with proper response from the government. Florida has always been a major hub for international drug trafficking and money laundering organizations. Its location, surrounding geography, large coastline, short distance to the West Indies and South America and multitude of ethnic groups has made it a haven for drug trafficking.

The petroleum and petrochemical industry along with many safety organizations have addressed specific hazards in oil and gas well drilling, and servicing operations by developing a number of publications, recommended practices and guidelines that specifically address safe work practices. The spill and its aftermath galvanized the country, raised environmental awareness and was the catalyst to the modern environmental movement in the United States
