Meet the New Congressman from FL-16

Republican Tom Rooney:

And here's why:

The Tarrance Group for the NRCC (10/15-16, likely voters, 10/9 in parens):

Tim Mahoney (D-inc): 29 (56)
Tom Rooney (R): 55 (31)
(MoE: ±5.8%)

The Democrats are toast in this district if Mahoney stays in. And I seem to remember something about the incumbent's name staying on the ballot if he does withdraw.

There's a national component here

FL 16 is based in the Palm Beach media market. A Democrat can;t win FL without a huge margin out of Palm Beach County. Kerry won PB County by 116,000 votes (60%) , and lost the state. Gore won it by 118,000 (62%) and , well, we know what happened.

I doubt that Obama will want to set foot anywhere in this media market for fear of getting press calls on the Mahoney matter. And if he does, it will draw attention nationally to the Democrats hypocrisy on ethics issues.  Either way, it doesn;t help him win FL.

At least the incumbent will pay the political price.

This one was of the hypocrits from 2006 that ran against the "Republican culture of corruption".  While no one is being told to assign some to blame  the Democrat leadership like they were two years ago with the GOP leadership over the Mark Foley scandal at least the congrescritter that is responsible willl be made to pay the political price.  This should serve as a sobering reminder to the Jackasses in both houses of Congress that they are actually even less popular than Bush.

Thrown under the bus by dailyKos

Kos pretty much collectively said good riddance to this guy with the biggest question was whether the media would harp on this nationally the way they did on Foley. Given the fact that a lot more news was coming out of the Presidential election, it disappeared from the National news pretty quickly.

Out of the 235(?) Democrats in the house only about 20 of the members have not formally endorse Obama and most of those are from districts were those where Bush has won in 2000 and 2004. For someone who was one of the luckiest people in terms of being elected because of an opponent scandal, he always seemed to have a "you owe me" when it comes to the party establishment. and Pelosi won't be sorry to see him go.

This is one Democrat that the general consensus on Kos was "throw him an anvil".

Sigh

Another Mahoney bites the dust.

Oh, well.  I was rooting for him, but I think he pretty much jumped under the bus.

SF,

Terry Mahoney
