Pre-Debate RNC Chairman Straw Poll

Support Blackwell: Conservatism, Outreach, and Grassroots

We need a new fusionism; we need a full portfolio conservative; we need Ken Blackwell!

I too support Ken Blackwell for RNC Chair

He has the principles and the vision to defeat a Democratic party intent on backing the Republicans into a corner and forcing them to accept appeasement as an electoral strategy.

Anyone Ever See Blackwell Give an Interview?

The guy is simply not a class-A communicator.   I recently saw an interview he did with Wolf Blitzer where he stumbled over his words and contradicted himself.  Not impressive.

He lost the Ohio Governorship race by over 20 points in a state like Ohio, which is hardly a Democratic bastion.  His subpar debate performance was part of the reason.  He doesn't strike me as someone who will appeal to indepedents one iota.

We need someone telegenic, like Michael Steele or Saul Aunizis, who can broaden the party's base.  These are the only two candidates with this ability.

SUPPORT SAUL ANUZIS FOR RNC CHAIRMAN

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis is running for Chairman of the Republican National Committee to bring back the party of ideas, bring it to every neighborhood in America and harness every tool of the digital age to lead an historic comeback for the GOP in 2010 and beyond.

Go to http://www.anuzisforchair.com/  to view Saul Anuzis' plan for the GOP.

RNC chair

Saul has great principles and ideas.  I really like what I've heard about him.

I have heard Ken Blackwell speak and make an entire crowd rise to its feet.  I believe he is a true conservative who can rebuild the party on a strategic level.

It is fantastic that the RNC chairman's race has generated so much heat; go GOP!

I don't think we need an RNC

I don't think we need an RNC chair to bring us to our feet so much as we need an RNC chair who knows how to manage and execute.

WE NEED MICHAEL STEELE

We need someone with the ability to speak to unfriendly audiences.  It is not the message that needs reform; we need someone who is good at communicating core conservative values.  Michael Steele undisputedly the greatest communicator of all of the current candidates- just do a quick YouTube search and compare all of the candidates and it is evident.  I like the conservatism of Blackwell, but unfortunately he is an uninspiring speaker, a quality needed for opposition to Barack Obama.

I am not sure.

Can anyone tell me who among these candidates supports the Resolution?

If none of them has the political insight to support the Resolution, I would suggest the RNC members nominate and elect James Bopp to the RNC Chair.

Michael Steele's Liberal Record

Michael Steel Supports Abortion Rights - Believes Roe v. Wade should be the law of the land. "My desire is that we follow what stare decisis is at this point." - Michael Steele, Oct. 29, 2006/NBC's "Meet the Press" Michael Steele Supports Affirmative Action - Supports affirmative action. "Studies show enormous disparities still exist in education, health care, employment and economic opportunities along racial lines in the United States. I believe programs are still necessary to help close these divides. I support giving people opportunities. Programs must be fair to all Marylanders - of every color - and they should focus on economic empowerment."  - Michael Steele, Aug. 7, 2006/Baltimore Sun

The classic non sequitur

1) Michael Steele supports settled law.  Therefore Michael Steele favors abortion.

Stare decisis is necessary because stability in expectations is desirable in a business environment.

2) Michael Steele wishes to alleviate inequity.  Therefore Michael Steele is pro- AA.

I see that statement as an opportunity to try something other than the failed affirmative action that still is no closer to reaching its stated goals than it was at the time it was enacted.

stability in expectations is antithetical to a free market

ergo you are arguing for a managed oligarchy of the ... top 200 companies from Wall Street? sure seems like it to me.

Incorrect

A simple example should suffice:

When a company goes to price their goods, they need to know what to charge for them.  They need to know who their consumers are, who their competition is, what their costs are.  All of these need to be relatively stable for an effective decision.

in a truly free market

an entrepreneur could spring up at any point and provide competition with you.  Big businesses would hate that, and so they act to eliminate competition, in as much as they can, particularly unexpected competition.

I can cite you a hundred different companies that don't know who their customers are, on a day to day basis (unless you're talking demographics, which is obviously a different story)... they feed off tourists.

Costs don't need to be relatively stable -- just look at how refineries gouge now to make up for the low gas prices this summer (yes, i know in real dollars they were higher, but they were clearly running at a loss.)

In a completely free market

...people would be free to barter for goods and services rather than constrained by currency, which amounts to governmental intervention in every transaction.

But that goes back to the question of how free do you have to be free?.

Not quite RisingTide

When free-market proponents talk about the importance of stability of expectations its a reference to legal regime - we want the rules we play by to remain the same.

Perhaps more simply, we want guarantees that everyone plays under the same rules, that the government is giving preferential treatment to one party and harming another one and the roles could arbitrarily be switched the next day.

Without a stable set of expectations with regards to rules there's no way to plan for the future. It has nothing to do with stable expectation of results.
