GOP Gains Louisiana Seat: 1st Vietnamese-American in Congress

that I had to post right after you.  We've got these guys (though Nate Silver is right that the LA-4 result is nothing to crow about).  With Obama more or less adopting Bush's foreign policy, the youngsters will be demoralized and it'll good for the country as well since neo-conservative foreign policy is the way to go to keep this country and her allies safe as Obama has surely recognized with his foreign policy flip-flops.

Prediction: We'll be able to hold these guys off from getting 60 in 2010 as well.  Something bigger could happen in the House if the Republican Study Committee can pull together a modern version of the "Contract" with Eric Cantor, Mike Pence, or Paul Ryan serving as our Newt Gingrich.

1) This helps recruiting.  It's much easier to say "look, our guys are winning close elections"  "stand up to President Obama, the people like to check the President in power" and "we are winning the lean R districts"

2) If Cao is visible, he may help stop the slow bleed of Asian-American votes from leaning R to leaning D.  The trend has followed the general trend of suburban voters.  It's amazing what one leader can do.  I'm sure Cao is helping the GOP among Vietnamese-Americans in NOLA.  His mere presence may help in a larger sense.  As someone who knows a lot of South Asian Americans, Bobby Jindal is a big plus as he shows people it is okay to be South Asian and Republican.

3) Cao needs to consider other offices.  He is not going to hold this seat in 2010.  He can try, but it is very, very unlikely unless William Jefferson makes a comeback bid.  But Cao can use this exposure to consider NOLA Mayor, a statewide office in 2011 (AG? Sec State? Lt GOV?), or something else.  Perhaps losing in 2010 would be perfect timing to declare for a 2011 statewide race.
