Democrats Heart McCain

Three things:

1. I know some of the "movement conservatives" will be in a tizzy over this, but let's try and look at the big picture. John McCain is running to be President of the United States, not president of CPAC. That sometimes means appealing outside of the base.

2. Now that McCain is leading Obama in YouTube hits, having different ads every day showing different sides to his candidacy is a good thing.

3. On a day when we're (once again) talking aboot the Clinton's, the money shot at the end with Hillary is pure gold (plus we all knew this commercial was coming when she first said that quote).

Most American Voters Are Right of Center

Since McCain is not appealing to the majority of these voters why would he raise even more questions in their minds about where he would lead this country? Is his old buddy Ted Kennedy going to be in the next video?

He had better select a real conservative running mate or he will be dead meat.

Curious

(I'm an Independent McCain supporter)  Curious about the reaction from the right on this one.  Hoping the 'big picture' vew point is taken, but not sure if that view point would be taken on not.

Agreed

All three of your points, especially #3 are valid.

movement conservative hearts McCain's Dem ad

I know some of the "movement conservatives" will be in a tizzy over this, but let's try and look at the big picture.

As a movement conservative, I like the ad.

I already know the downside issue wise to McCain, and I like this ad a lot more than the ads of him bleating about global warming or beating up on Bush to establish maverick 'cred' - those I think are a DISASTER that will PO his base (including me). This doesnt. The man is respected across the board and this reminds of his high esteem. This is an endorsement of his capabilities and character and reminds us he can work well with others. it completely debunks and deflates any Obama attempt to tag him as a partisan republican hack. He aint. It really cuts the legs off from just about any serious Obama attack on McCain. Period.

"Country First" signoff is great too, because it underscores McCain's appeal as someone who puts country above party, country above ambition, country above (Globalist Pap in Berlin? sellouts to Hamas and Iran?) etc.

And yes, the Hillary quote is awesome.

Conservatives are concerned about actions, not words. McCain can lock down the conservatives better with a solid conservative VP pick. Cantor groundswell continues. :-)

Hillary fans are a great target for this ad

A YouTube comment that makes the point I made on why this is so effective and why 'country first' is a great slogan that captures McCain's message:

I am glad the McCain campaign has finally gotten it together -- these ads have been great - Obama is an empty suit. Hillary is my first choice because of her experience, statesmanship & she's honest -- those qualities I see in McCain -- COUNTRY before PARTY

It's great because it is not just the SAME message I used to explain to conservative patriots why we should vote McCain:

We vote based on who is best for the country as top priority. Republican conservatives can clean up the mess of RINO poop in the RNC later as a secondary priority, but the top priority of a patriot is what is best for America. Country before party!

There are many conservatives who have heartburn over McCain in the white house. He wont be "with us" on all issues and knife us on some.  But we know in our hearts that he is much better for the country than Obama. So we too need to put Country First.
