Congratulations, Sen. Obama: An Open Letter to the President-
Elect
by engr.dr.samuel.adeniyi.ajanaku| November 5, 2008 at 12:54 AM
I'm writing this post from my desk, As you will see, it is a congratulatory message to Barack Obama.
Dear Mr. President-Elect:
Congratulations on Tuesday night. As  activist of AFT's e-Activists who share my philosophy of government., I am proud of your accomplishment. your campaign has shown that a centralized long term campaign organization is not mutually exclusive with decentralized short term action plans. Over the past decade, failed campaigns have shown that grassroots action by itself cannot succeed without direction.
SINCERELY YOURS

Dear engr.dr.samuel.adeniyi ajanaku,

Thank you. Barack Obama's historic election as president is in
no small part due to the hard work of people like you. From the
primaries through Election Day, thousands of you showed that
this election was too important to sit on the sidelines. I have
been so proud to hear the stories of AFT members making their
voices heard by volunteering in the field, hosting debate-watch
parties, sharing their stories and photos from the campaign
trail, answering surveys about the issues and candidates, and so
much more. The AFT's e-Activists truly have demonstrated
democracy in action.

This is a tremendous victory, but it is a beginning, not an end.
President-elect Obama inherits considerable challenges--a severe
economic crisis, a broken healthcare system, the need to revamp
federal education law once and for all to address the
unacceptable achievement gap between students from different
backgrounds, enormous infrastructure strains, and American
troops engaged in two wars. Our elected officials have huge
tasks ahead of them, and our continued civic engagement will be
crucial. We must continue to be heard. We must remain active
participants in our great democracy. The AFT e-Activist program
will continue to provide a way.

Again, thank you for all you did to bring about this great
victory. We couldn't have done it without you.

In unity,

Randi Weingarten
AFT president

Udall UpdateDear Friend, I'm proud to tell you that today my colleagues in the Senate and I confirmed Judge Sonia Sotomayor as the 111th Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Senator Udall & Justice Sotomayor In my first opportunity to confirm a judge to our nation's highest court, I was honored to support as distinguished an individual as Justice Sotomayor. We have all had the opportunity to hear Justice Sotomayor's story over the past few months, and I had the opportunity to meet with her in June. Throughout this process, I have only become more and more impressed by her intellect, character and commitment to justice.  She has a wealth of both personal and professional experience, and I have no doubt that she will serve our country well. It has been an honor to participate in such a historic moment.  As the first Hispanic and just the third woman to serve on the Supreme Court, Justice Sotomayor is a role model for countless young Americans. Her confirmation is a celebration of the diversity of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives that our country enjoys. Monday I spoke on the Senate floor on behalf of Justice Sotomayor, praising her qualifications and compassion.   You can watch a video of the speech by clicking below. Sotomayor Has the Experience, Empathy for the High Court (Video)Congratulations to Justice Sotomayor and thank you to everyone who contacted me with input during the confirmation process. Cheers! I appreciate hearing your comments on this extremely important issue. Although no Social Security reform legislation has been formally considered on the Senate floor this session, I have been following this discussion closely. I understand that some adjustments may need to be made to preserve the financial integrity of the program for current beneficiaries and to assure that workers who are paying Social Security taxes today get a solid return on their investment when they eventually retire. However, it is important to also remember that Social Security provides an important safety net to millions of older Americans, and that commitment should be respected. And, as we evaluate any reform proposal, we should not ignore the implications for today's workers, and their children, of the government potentially borrowing trillions of dollars to pay for the transition to private accounts at a time of historically high federal deficits and escalating national debt. After all, we are creating a crushing financial burden that willfall on the next generation to pay off.It is my hope that the effort to “reform†Social Security will be undertaken in a bipartisan spirit that protects the basic integrity of the Social Security program. Seniors have lived up to their end of the bargain, and workers who are paying into the system have the right to the expectation of a reasonable return on their investment in the Social Security System when they retire. The government must live up to its responsibility in this contract as it looks for ways to protect the investment of current workers.Again, thank you for contacting me about Social Security reforms. Please stay in touch in the days ahead.Sincerely,Barack ObamaUnited States SenatorP.S. Our system does not allow direct response to this email. Bush" <ecampaign@gop.com>View contact detailsTo: samuelajanaku@yahoo.co.ukDear Samuel. ,In 2004, you were part of a historic nationwide organization that propelled my campaign to victory.  Together we delivered a clear message to the American people about the need to keep our Nation safe and secure, the need to keep our taxes low to continue creating jobs.http://www.GOP.com/72hourThat message proved successful because you delivered it to your neighbors, co-workers, friends and family.  This year, I am asking for your help once more.  An important decision will be made this Fall - whether our agenda of hope and optimism continues, or whether the Democrats take control of the House and Senate. The help you gave my campaign in 2004 was invaluable, and I am asking you to go to work again this Fall for your Republican congressional candidates.  Time is short--Election Day is under one month away, and in many places people are about to vote early or via absentee. We must do the important work of grassroots campaigning if we are to maintain a Republican majority in 2006.http://www.GOP.com/72hourFor nearly six years, I have worked with the Republicans in Congress to protect Americans by strengthening our homeland security and pursuing terrorists where they live.  Together, with a Republican majority, we passed tax relief that spurred unprecedented growth and now need to make that relief permanent.  And, working with Republican leaders in the Senate, we confirmed two extremely qualified Supreme Court Justices who faithfully interpret the Constitution instead of legislating from the bench.I plan to continue this agenda for two more years, but I need a Republican majority in Congress to continue the progress we have made.  Without it, you can bet that our political opponents will do all they can to roll back important tools like the PATRIOT Act, to raise your taxes, and stop me from appointing conservative judges to the Federal bench.http://www.GOP.com/72hourThank you for what you did to return me to the White House in 2004.  I hope you will put your talents to work for Republican congressional candidates in Iowa this year.  The consequences of not succeeding this fall are dire for our agenda for America.Sincerely,George W. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is the latest Democrat to express an interest in running for Sen. Joe Lieberman's (I-Conn.) seat in 2012. Murphy told the Danbury News Times Monday that he's considering a Senate bid, but offered no timetable for a decision. "It's something I'll be talking about with my family and the people I trust,'' said Murphy, who called the upper chamber a "pretty broken place" that might benefit from a new voice. Last week, Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) said he's also considering a Lieberman challenge, noting he would make a decision after the lame-duck session comes to a close.Lieberman has still not indicated whether he intends to run for another term in 2012, and his future continues to be the subject of intense speculation on Capitol Hill. The independent recently told The Ballot Box that he's planning to weigh his options over the upcoming recess and that he's likely to sit down soon with the new head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.).Lieberman lost a Democratic primary to Ned Lamont in 2006 thanks to anger from the left over his support of the Iraq war, and he was abandoned by his party establishment when he chose to run as an independent. The rift only grew larger during the 2008 cycle when Lieberman endorsed and campaigned for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). While many liberals still have Lieberman in their sights, the independent led the successful charge in the Senate to repeal "Don't ask, don't tell." It gives Lieberman something positive to pitch the Democratic base and could dissuade more high-profile Democrats from jumping into the race should he decide to run again.Lieberman has said he expects to make his decision early next year. =================================================================
