The Real Tragedy Of Japan And What We Should Take From It.

The Japanese people have become as fierce an ally and friend as they were an enemy. As a young Marine I studied the campaigns of the Pacific War, where American Marines and Japanese Imperial soldiers threw themselves at each other in some of the most savage battles in the history of armed conflict. I saw a couple of those islands, actually walked some of the places where the battles were fought.

During a training cycle I had occasion to spend some weeks in Japan. I traveled the countryside when I could. I met many ordinary Japanese people in their day-to-day lives. I talked to an English teacher… a fisherman… a tank commander in the Japanese home defense forces… farmers, students and businessmen. Without exception they were sincere, friendly people. I was invited into complete strangers’ homes and treated like an honored guest… It occurred to me that perhaps it was because I made a sincere effort to learn the language and customs, and I exhibited a lively curiosity which they were only too happy to satisfy.

We are watching a people who have just suffered one of the great tragedies of the modern era… the death toll is going to be horrendous. Far higher than the figures we’ve seen up to now. What has been remarkable has been the response of the Japanese people to an event which would have prostrated many other countries outright. Grieve?… Hurt? Yes, they grieve and they hurt, but they immediately begin the long path to recovery. There are no bleating cries for others to do for them what they can do themselves.

There’s no looting. Imagine a situation like this in Oakland or Los Angeles, where looting has been rampant during disturbances… where the only stores that didn’t get looted were those owned by Korean and Vietnamese, who were defending their properties with M-16 rifles and shotguns. (Amazing how the bad guys avoid stuff like that).

We can take a lot from this if we’re willing to listen and learn. Our Lame Stream Media has screamed every irresponsible headline they could fabricate, starting multiple layers of conflicting rumor. The Japanese are playing the whole nuclear thing rather close to their vests… but they’re not wont to deal in fiction or rumor either.

We don’t have a press any more. They spew just exactly what their Marxist bosses want them to. And right now that’s to gin up nuclear fears, in preparation for walling atomic energy away for ever in the dungeons of the environmental radicals and the EPA… who, by the way, is scrambling like crazy to implement cap and tax before our timid Mr. Boehner can summon up the testosterone to cut the EPA’s feet out from under it.

So while our President plays golf, goes to Rio or whichever vacation du jour he is on, and our majority leader takes time to figure out he has a majority, the Japanese people will go quietly about putting their lives together. Of course, we’ll help. What good friend wouldn’t? But it will be the Japanese, with the same indomitable will and sense of purpose that enabled them to return from the devastation of World War Two, that will pull them through.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

Takeaway from Japan - -Governments are very inefficient

The China Syndrome, is really a MSM meltdown syndrome, and a MSM talking head, standing in a country where they don't speak the language, really has no "situation credibility" 12 hrs after they land and start a live broadcast.

They should stay at the office and use the internet.

Lets put Government Bureaucrats in charge of our Healthcare, they can save our Lives......maybe.,,,,occasionally.....sometimes.....slowly.

You're wrong about looting and vacation, Skip

The link here has multiple links within.  Much looting going on now, as there has been in past Japanese disasters:

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2011/03/why-no-looting-in-japan-ctd-1.html

Regarding the President's vacation situation, he took less vacation in his first year than the previous three Republican presidents.  http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/     And businessmen contend that they're working when on the golf course, and being a businessman, I know that they're right.  How or why this would be different for the President of the United States, I can't fathom.  Probably because it's not.

See you in a few weeks.  I'll check back again to see if this site still exists (no new posts on main page since 12/22/10 - a total of 76 days).

Gee, a "HIT and RUN" from Dean2

Nice Vacation Link.......but ONE BIG item stands out when comparing Vacations between this President and his 61st round of Golf today, and that is Location....Location.....Location.

In the link you posted it says...."Reagan vacationed at his home in Santa Barbara" and Bush vacationed "At his Ranch in Crawford".  Just today, we learn that Obama is leaving for RIO De Janerio in Brazil, with a return trip thru Ireland, and if you start tracking vacations for "o" backwards from today......Obama has NOT spent a LOT OF TIME in Illinois vacationing "at home".  But he does go to Hawaii a lot, Europe, China, etc....etc....and he's not worried about the price of Jet Fuel, but us poor in debt Americans worry a lot about the cost of gas.

You're comparing Apples to Oranges in terms of Presidents Leaving DC for Vacation and comparing them to this partying president and Part Time Sports analyst.

If you want to play partisan games...

In his first two years in office, Obama spent 58 days on vacation. This compares to over 70 days Bush Jr. took in his first year alone. Obama's record on this is better than every Republican for decades. In total, Bush Jr. was president for 2,920 days, of which he spent 1,020 days on vacation. This means that, out of the 8 years for which he was paid, nearly three of those years were spent frolicking (Bush destroyed every previous record). When Obama--or any Democratic president--becomes that lazy, maybe your complaint will be something more than the complete bullshit it is now.

Let me say it again, location location location

You're just counting days and can't bring yourself to mention "vacation location", or Obama's million dollar Hawaii vacation.

That's rather shallow and binary of you, if I may say.

And when he's in DC, its NON STOP PARTYING (link).

I never complained about Obama being lazy or even the number of days, and Bushes "record Days" are not at risk at all by Obama, as Bush had 8 years as President, Obama may not even make 4 years.

Hmmmm.....

Why do you say Obama might not make four years, 4speed?  Having those "Second Amendment remedy" daydreams again?

I say that because of high crimes and misdemeanors

Ignoring for the 2nd time the Obama administration has been caught making a $2-trillion error in its deficit projections......Some of his Executive orders are crimes against the constitution, he's pretty much a Liar on a large number of Campaign promises, he's a Chicago thug who ignores the laws of the land, and I don't think he can survive the ongoing and future congressional investigations.

The federal government is now six months late with its budget, and its deficit exceeds 10% of America’s GDP.   Guess who's driving the Car that's in the ditch ?   The Cost of living hits a new Record, Unemployment rises in nearly all metro areas.....explain why we would want to keep Obama for 2 more years ?

You can only fire so many inspector generals who are getting too close for comfort, before Congress and "we the people" catches on to your "profile" of trying to run a Dictatorship.  Then you have his out of control spending of the public's tax money.  Its a big list of Crimes and misdemeanors.

Then you have Donald Trump's latest opinion on the legality of Obama's presidency, the "daydream" is starting to become an "Infection" such that many State legislators are asking for Proof of eligibility to get on the ballot for 2012.   His 2012 run is toast, I hope he enjoys his Rio De Janeiro trip, as its not all turning up roses back here in the homeland, and he can't blame Bush for $4.00 a gallon gas.

Obama isn't fooling anyone anymore, he's an Idiot,.......WASHINGTON (AP) -- A new assessment of President Barack Obama's budget released Friday says the White House underestimates future budget deficits by more than $2 trillion over the upcoming decade,,,,,,,,,, he's an out of control big spender, and his presidency is headed for the trash heap of history.

Dean and his "complete BS" the all work no vacation "o"

Brazil is vacation from Day 1   Obama does Rio

Son of Dean's complete non Vacation

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) -- President Barack Obama is leaving Central America earlier than scheduled, cutting short a tour dominated by the U.S.-led military action in Libya.

The president eliminated a visit to Mayan ruins from his itinerary Wednesday, permitting him to leave a few hours earlier.

Gee, its a "working Vacation" for the President, at the Mayan ruins  ? ?  How will that make the Mayan's feel ?
