Unhealthy – Outrageous And Embarrassing.

It’s the only game in town… and it smells pretty damned gamey. Obama: “We’re going to provide you with choices”. Then he claims to ‘aid’ education by confiscating another chunk of the private sector by the government takeover of student loan programs. Who the heck said the government had any business in loaning money for schooling to start with? He wants to strip requirements that children need to understand, and have mastery of, subject matter to some one-size-fits-all vocational social indoctrination. More community organizers for ACORN and Union goons for SEIU presumably.

His headlong rush to illegally and unconstitutionally force passage of the Democrats’ long desired universal single payer health care, against the almost uniform opposition of the American people, is an indication of the desperation that pervades his administration and party. Nothing is working for him, despite loaded audiences and a huge majority in the House and Senate.

The opposition, the American people as much or more than the Republican Party, have stopped Obama’s agenda dead in its tracks, resulting in the scorched earth schemes the Democrat House is cobbling together. With total disregard, or self imposed blindness, the leadership is ignoring the absolute outrage out in the electorate.

As word has spread about the possible attempt to utilize the so-called Slaughter solution, to move the health care bill forward without a House vote ‘deeming‘ it to have passed, has spread across the country and it has ignited a raging conflagration among the American people. Americans have an innate sense of fair play. We also have a stubborn love for our freedom and independence. The Democrats seem unable to grasp that as a people we have been pushed too far. Thus far, the Patriotic Revolution has been one based on our political traditions and the rule of law. If the Democrats continue on this path of illegality, suborning our Constitutional freedoms, they may just find themselves on the receiving end of a real political revolution that will destroy their party for the conceivable future.

According to reports, the Anointed One’s delaying of his Asia trip has had no effect on the status of the vote count at all. Despite all of Nancy Pelosi’s grand pronouncements she still doesn’t have the votes for passage, as the American People continue to hammer away at Representatives, voicing their anger at Congress’s continued rogue behavior. Keep up the good work!! Keep at them and don’t let them up for air.

Whoooaaa!

Government takeover of student loan programs?

You mean you don't know they already are government programs?

Still waiting

Do you even understand what you are posting about?

There are Loan guidelines, as part of a Program, then there is

There are Loan guidelines, as part of a Program, then there is CONTROL.....

But you used to contact your local bank, to get the Sudent loans.  Now we're talking Government Control.......Babriel must must be one of the useful Idiots that can't recognize the difference between Government Program/Government Control ?

Government "programs" brought you the Motgage Crisis, ONLY after Government Control forced Banks to make the loans.   And if you don't quite understand that, then you need to visit YouTube and watch Barney Frank in action.

In the Meantime, just blame Bush, you'll still be a useful Idiot, but you'll feel better about it.

No

Banks ONLY provide student loans because the government provides a guarantee. They take no risk at all!

It's that guarantee that is being taken away. Banks will still be able to provide student loans if they so choose, but they will have to do it on their own. You  know, the free market?

Fascinating how conservatives talk and talk but don't have a clue as to the basics.

Do you get it? Banks are complaining because they used to get a government subsidy and now that's being taken away. I thought conservatives wanted that.

Govt. guarantees low interest, Bank used to do the Paperwork

I have personal knowledge of Student loans, the 8 years ago process, and the TODAY's Student Loan process, which has already been impacted by Government rules.  Banks cannot do anymore Student. Loans.

The Paperwork NOW, is 5 times more complex than 8 years ago.  And the Government wants complete control......why let a bank staff do the loans, when a NEW Bureaucracy can do it slower and more complicated ?   In fact, I think there is MORE than one Bureaucracy going to be involved....the Layered approach.

What is it that you don't get?

If the banks want to provide student loans they are free to do so.

Again, the banks can provide student loans if they want.

But what the Democrats want to change are the SUBSIDIES the banks get, in the form of guarantees.

Oh, I get it, I'm informed and you're not.

Talking points don't work, ya gotta know what you're talking about.
Sept. 2009 House passes bill.
The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill this month to change the way federally guaranteed education loans are made, cutting out banks' roles as middleman and issuing the loans directly.

That's what I'm talking about, Dufus.

Are you dumb?

 Once again.

Student loans ALREADY are a government program.

You're repeating yourself, I'm not, I'm giving you "Details"

And the article above describes proposals of changes to the "existing" student Loan programs along with Obama "promises".
The Government CAFE LAWS and Automobile Mileage standards for the Auto Industry were Government "Programs" at one time also, now GM and Chrysler are Government OWNED. It was a "Bailout" to prevent Bankruptcy, Voila, now its a "Program" ?
Some of us Americans do not like the trends of Government takeovers, which you call Student Loan programs.
Student Loans are no longer just a program anymore, Its headed towards a complete takeover.......by the Government....Are YOU DUMB ?
Don't you listen to Obama ?
Read the proposed bill.....better yet, read the Article above....
"Obama: “We’re going to provide you with choices”. Then he claims to ‘aid’ education by confiscating another chunk of the private sector by the government takeover of student loan programs."

I think I see a "program" ? ? Nah, Its a TAKEOVER ! Another useful Idiot, owned and operated by the Voter Ownership "Program".......ignore the small print, it will just confuse you.

How about SocSec/Medicare "Programs" ? ?
From Forbes:
“The combined unfunded liabilities of Medicare and Social Security—the federal health care and the pension programs for the elderly—are $107 trillion, seven times the current GDP. Meanwhile, Medicaid, the joint federal-state health insurance program, is consuming on average 21% of state budgets, their single biggest ticket item even before ObamaCare dumps another 16 million people into the program, expanding the Medicaid population by 25%. Beyond that, state and local government have promised their employees a trillion dollars more in pension and other benefits than they have funds to deliver. “

OK, NOW (hopefully) Gabriel understands Government "Programs"......they just keep on growing, until, WE run out of Money.

You keep mixing stuff up

The proposed changes  to the student loan program have absolutely NOTHING to do with CAFE or mileage standards. In those cases the government imposes certain obligations on the private sector. In the case of student  loans the government is saying "Guys, you can continue lending if you want, but we won't be subsidizing it anymore".

Do you get it by now!!?? This is actually a CONSERVATIVE decision, it's telling the banks that if they want to lend money they need to take the risk as well.

Why do conservatives insist on posting opinions about thing they don't understand?

The 2009 student loan Bill passed by Congress, wasn't my opinion

The bill stalled in the Senate in Jan 2010, and would have eliminated the Banks role in student Loans.
It is now included in the Healthcare bill.
But it has already had an effect....Call a Bank tomorrow, and ask about a Student Loan.....I did.

It should be a very short Conversation, only take a minute.

God, you are dumb!

No, it doesn't eliminate the banks. The banks can still lend if they want to but they won't have a government SUBSIDY!

It's not that complicated.

Once again, all the Democrats are doing  is telling the banks, NO MORE SUBSIDIES!!

Yea, sure, that is "all the Democrats are doing"..just that ?

"The labyrinthine legislative legerdemain called health care reform now includes a reconciliation package that would fold in student loan reform. And by reform, the Democrats mean increasing direct lending to students by the federal government. Though the two issues may seem utterly unrelated, they do have this in common -- both health care and higher education are realms of American life in which government has undermined the operation of market forces and caused artificially high prices."

"The bill would end government payments to private, commercial student lenders, leaving the government to lend directly to students. It would also redirect billions of dollars to expand the Pell grant program for low-income students, and to pay for other education initiatives. "

OK, The banks are really shocked that their piddling "subsidy" may disappear, so much so that very few banks are participating, and if you call they will refer you to the University to handle the paperwork, the banks don't even want to talk about it.....Then there is the added stuff highlighted above.....while YOU think its just the Banks.......Hence, Useful Idiot who doesnt READ the "Student Loan" bill in its FINAL form....pending, yes, but locked and loaded.

Try and understand that Laws are Written and are included in pending legislation, and then they are subject to being passed, which I think is what we're discussing.

Sept. 2009, It passed the House........Jan 2010, it was temporarity tabled in the Senate, Now lets bring you up to date.....

So, some people like to talk about what is ON ITS WAY from the Government, BEFORE it happens.   Be aware, before its too late.

to gabriel

You are being disingenuous.

Yes Obama's plan is to eliminate the student loan guarantees to banks.  But that is not all he proposes.  He also proposes that the government make student loans directly to students.  The clear intent here is for the government to kick private banks out of the student loan market.  There will be no reason for students to get student loans from private banks - which will have to charge higher interest rates to make up for the lack of a government guarantee - when they can get government loans instead,  And the government won't have to charge higher interest rates.  Plus, the plan also includes expansion of Pell grants.  I believe the end game here is to have "free" college education.

It is not a free-market-oriented plan.  Of course, neither is the status quo.  But to insinuate that Obama is marching to the defense of free-market capitalism, by making banks survive without relying on subsidies, is laughable.  He is not motivated by free market concerns; he wants the government to issue the loans instead.

Even Time magazine - you know, that hotbed of right-wing nuttery - calls it a "government takeover".

So, gabriel, if you support the plan, clearly and forthrightly state why.  But don't pretend it is something that it is not.

Hmmm...

You'd have a point if conservatives were arguing for the complete elimination of any government role in student loans. That would be a consistent approach. But I haven't seen heard of any GOP pol propose that.

What is being proposed is to take from the private sector the government guarantees (subsidies) they now have. That's clearly more free market than what we have today.

student loans

What is being proposed is to take from the private sector the government guarantees (subsidies) they now have. That's clearly more free market than what we have today.

No, that is only part of what is being proposed.  This is you being disingenuous again.  What is ALSO being proposed is for the government to become a student loan direct lender.  That is FAR less free market than what we have today.  The ultimate goal here is for government to shove private banks out of the student loan market.  This is the complete opposite of 'free market'.

Probably the reason why you don't see Republicans arguing for abolishing government's role in student loans is because they favor government having a role in student loans.  They just don't favor government taking over the student loan business entirely.  But, Republicans and conservatives are not synonymous.  Here is an article put forth by Heritage about ways to make college more affordable.  Among other things, they suggest eliminating the subsidies for student loan borrowers, and instead focus on reducing tuition costs.

If you are a principled libertarian who thinks government should get out of the student loan business entirely, then fine.  Stand up and say that you oppose both the status quo and Obama's proposal.  But, as I suspect, if you are just a liberal jonesing for a fight, then knock it off.  We aren't the stupid rubes that the Kos Klowns take us to be.  We understand that Obama is not particularly friendly to the free market, and shilling for him by attempting to co-opt the conservative lexicon in his defense is not fooling anyone.
