CO-SEN: Mark Udall getting hammered for skipping energy vote
Earlier, I wrote about how Steny Hoyer tried to give cover to Mark Udall for skipping the vote on the adjournment resolution in the House. Earlier, I had also argued that the whole #dontGo thing -- before it was a thing -- was a major strategic victory for the Congressional Republicans.
Well, the hammer is beginning to fall on Udall -- and hopefully others.
Today, Freedom's Watch dropped a web video and a robocall. First the video:
The robocall script is after the jump.
Hello, I’m calling from Freedom’s Watch with a Mark Udall vacation update.
Last week, Mark Udall promised to vote to keep Congress from going on vacation without passing a bill to lower gas prices.
Two days later, he broke that promise.
Congress voted to go on vacation without passing an energy bill.
And Mark Udall?
He was too busy hobnobbing it with his campaign fundraisers to even show up for the vote.
Now Congress is on a five-week vacation, and we’re still paying an arm-and-a-leg for gas.
Call Mark Udall at (303) 650 7820 and tell him we expect him to stay on the job and fight for lower gas prices and energy independence…
…Just like he promised he would.
Paid for by Freedom’s Watch. (202) 379 3742.

Great video ad
As an Atlanta native, I think it is especially funny that they used a Falcons Super Bowl victory as the moral equivalent of losing WWII. The localization of this ad is the icing on the cake. I think Udall's going to have a much tougher time than we thought, and if we localize elections, the House elections could change big time as well.
Udall ad - Awesome and funny
I hope Udall (FlakeyDem - Boulder) goes down in flames over his broken promise. This is a great ad, and you cant go wrong pointing out when a politician both failed to do his job and broke his word all in one fell swoop.
Next, we need to go after the Nancy Democrats, those Democrats who pretend to be independent-minded but are really in the tank for Nancy Pelosi. The key there is the discharge petition on the American Energy Act. Many of these Blue Dogs claim to support offshore drilling but have NOT signed the discharge petition and will NOT cross Pelosi on her "there will be no vote before the election" strategy.
We need to expose the drill-nothing do-nothing Democrat fakers.
But especially, we need...
...to go after any Congressional Republican who is either too incompetent or too complicit with the other side to meet his own political responsibilities.

why 'especially'?
Why do Democrats get to live by lower standards?
I am sick and tired of the Obamedia and the MSM covering for the incompetence and lying of the Democrats on an ongoing basis. If a Republican falls short, it is front page news pronto. We need to expose Democrats when they lie and fail to do what they promise because nobody else will.
Because the hypocrisy is greater.
I have no problem going after Democrats, it is part of the ideological struggle that keeps our democracy relevant. But the struggle cannot be continued without a strong political base. When Republicans fail to do their political duty, they weaken our political base, as in the case of the House Minority Whip, Rep. Roy Blunt.

And just so there's no confusion...
... David is referring to the fact that Roy Blunt missed the same vote the GOP is now hitting Udall over. Blunt is, of course, the Republican Whip - the man responsible for making sure his caucus-mates are aware of and show up for votes. Blunt's excuse for missing the vote - he didn't know when it was and he was busy having lunch with some fat-cat. Sounds like the GOP needs a new Whip in the House.
And there is this...
...here we have the Heritage Foundation, a "professional" think-tank, holding a "weekly" luncheon. So this was not like it was a random, one time affair. This was held I supposed on a regular basis. You would think somebody at the Heritage Foundation would have thought about the possibility of somebody taking advantage of this situation for political purposes. I mean, after all they are a Think-tank. That's what they do and yet here they are causing a Republican Congressman to miss a vital vote. To me, they are as much responsible for this occurring as Rep. Blunt is.
Why would the Heritage Foundation be sponsoring a luncheon at a time and in a location that would require Republican officeholders to miss their official obligations, anyway?

Shouldn't the title be...
Shouldn't the title start with CO-02 or something like that, and not CO-SEN? He's in the House 2nd Congressional District for CO, right? I thought CO-SEN meant a Senate race?
Not trying to pick nits. I was just confused, and wonder if I'm missing something.
He is running for senate
Udall is stepping down from the House to run for the Senate seat vacated by Wayne Allard. Bob Schafferr is his Republican opponent.
Ahhhh...thank you.
I knew I was missing something.

I think their ad is better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JqwWEErJcQ
a few sincere questions
I'm confused about a few things. First the name of this political ploy - #don'tGo - what does it mean? the # symbol is especially unclear. Also what is the urgency after doing little about energy for thirty years to pass a bill for drilling that won't have an impact for another twenty years. And what about all those unused oil leases - won't drilling take place on some of these first. Is there a shortage of equipment or something. Also the analysts I've seen or read about say that when new oil wells finally start producing the impact on cost on the world oil market will be minimal. Is the American Energy bill that is being pushed the bipartisan compromise that was recently proposed or was that in the senate. Are reps from both house and senate in on this protest? It seems to me both sides are more concerned about scoring political points than solutions at this time. Finally why do republicans mock conservation, the only realistic short term solution. I find driving 60 rather than 75 mph quite relaxing. I'd really appreciate a responce, as I don't know any republicans to ask my questions in person and views are presented here with a reasonable tone.
Well answered
In another post...
Got that call last night
I think it's really effective.
Too bad we can't put it on gas pumps here.
For cjbreisch: Udall is a US representative now running for Senate.
Where is the robo audio?
Robos don't work. Never have.
It is interesting that for the past two months FW has announced robos around the nation but there are NO example audio files available.
Where are they?

Also, a reader has heard this one.

For what was supposed to be a sure loss, Schaffer seems to be holding his own. The Senate race in my state is a fiasco; if I donate anywhere, it will be to Colorado.
