EXACTLY what tapes is Mark Penn referring to?

Jen Rubin passes on a great little tibit from Jake Tapper on the document dump from the Atlantic. You want to read this one which contains Mark Penn's analysis just prior to the Iowa Caucus.

On page 8, in the scenario that Hillary Clinton comes in second behind Barack Obama, Penn recommends:

If it is a two-way race with Obama, on Friday we do a media interviews (sic) and basically say that he is unvetted, discuss his ever-changing positions. Release the tapes. Create immediate pressure that deprives him of oxygen

What tapes? If it is the Wright tapes, why did it take so long? If it is something else..., what tapes?

UPDATE: HuffPo's Sam Stein has a Clinton operative who argues that the tapes were flip-flop tapes.

. . .the tapes that they're referring to are the "whitey" or "why'd he. . .?" tapes that never materialized.  That's just my guess.

. . .I'd say that sounds about right.  "Release the tapes" has a more sinister ring to it, unless you look at it in that context.  And, admittedly, after all the years that the Clintons have been a part of public life, I'm probably predisposed to see the sinister where it may not be.

That means you know they are secretly working behind the scenes to ensure McCain defeats the Obamanation. That way in 2012 Hillary can make a comeback on a I told you so campaign and then claim she will run against the 12 years Bush-McCain they way Bill ran aginst the 12 years of Reagan-Bush back in '92. 

These two may not be nearly as smart as they like to think they are but they certainly don't suffer fools lightly.

More Tapes To Come?

I think it's very likely that there are some damning videos floating around about the Obamas that is waiting for an October surprise. Reverend Wright's sermons at Trinity were always videotaped. A hate-filled, racist sermon with Obama standing up and clapping on tape doesn't seem like an impossible scenario.

Michelle Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder, and the Obama campaign is doing everything they can to hide away the "angry black woman". A screed by her on tape before Obama was running for President seems very plausible. What's funny is when the "Whitey Tape" rumors were circulating, no one questioned whether or not Michelle would actually say those things, just whether or not the tape was real.

The other side of me, however, thinks that if something really bad was out there the Clintons would have used it in the primary. Then again, they completely missed the Reverend Wright angle. Had the Clintons come out with Rev. Wright early on, Hillary would have easily beat Obama. Once the Wright footage came out, Hillary consistently beat Obama in all the important primaries, and actually ended up with more total votes than Obama.

If the Clintons do have something, I wouldn't doubt for a minute they would pass it on to the McCain campaign.

Regardless, we can't rely on some mythical tape this election, we need to win on issues.

According to his blog at the POLITICO, they are noy just flip-flop tapes, but actually records of Obama taking far-left positions as a state legislator and later lying about it.

What's funny is when the "Whitey Tape" rumors were circulating, no one questioned whether or not Michelle would actually say those things, just whether or not the tape was real.However, the blogger posts some piece of ridiculous union trivia every day - I can't conclude anything but that anti-unionism is his (tiresome) hobby horse.Thanks for sharing.
