McCain up with Indies; Is the Dem registration advantage that big?

CBS releases a new poll:

McCain leads Obama by 8 points among registered independent voters, considered a key voting block in November. The Arizona senator leads Obama 46 percent to 38 percent, with 11 percent of respondents undecided.

But.

Obama leads McCain 48 percent to 42 percent among registered voters, with 6 percent of respondents undecided.

Do we really  believe that Democratic turnout is going to be that much higher? I am skeptical. Thoughts?

In the ball park

The overall RV result seems to be in the same ball park as the polls listed on Real Clear Politics.

There are probably a lot fo Ex-Republican Independents.

Not only is McCain cleaning Obama's clock among independents, he's taking 12% of the Dem vote as well, and a QUARTER of Clinton voters.  All in the very same poll.

are gonna come back to the Dems before it's all over (at least, a good number of them).

Also, note that the Independents in the poll have a lot of undecideds, so McCain's carrying a larger proportion of them compared to Obama won't add up to as many in the overall total as that proportion might lead one to think. 

The reason is the higher number of Democrats

The reason for the Obama lead in these numbers is that there are many more Democrats than Republicans.

Where it is going to count: The General Election. I think Obama has rolled out a ton of new registration and I am not sure if those folks show up on the big day

Obama beat Clinton on the strength of the huge number of new voters his ground team registered.  Anyone who thinks they will sit out the general election is whistling past the graveyard.
