OH SoS rejecting election observers; Perfect vehicle for election fraud

Early voting is taking place in Ohio. Through the end of the week, people can register and vote on the same day. The Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner argues that they are merely "casting their ballot" rather than "voting" so the fact that Ohio statute requires 30 days between registering and voting would not interfere.

So here is what is happening today. People are showing up to register and vote. There is no affirmative evidence that these people have not registered or voted somewhere else. There is no control. Normally in an election, partisan election monitors are allowed into polling places so that they can police each other. But not in two counties, Franklin and Montgomery, in Ohio. Brunner also issued an advisory opinion to counties saying that they are not required to allow election monitors. Watch an election observer be turned away.

Now if you want to see what is actually happening on the ground? This video shows interviews with people who are voting in Franklin County, where Republican election monitors are not being allowed into polling places.

 My favorite is the quote:

It's a perfect opportunity for them to come in, register at a temporary address like a homeless shelter or a YMCA or something like that. They can register at that address because they don't know where they're going to be tomorrow or next week."

The registrar also doesn't know where they will be. And there is nothing stopping that person from registering at a different location tomorrow (or later today).

Note that Brunner cannot be said to be simply trying to protect the franchise. After all, she directed county officials to discard absentee ballot applications. These are just partisan hacks interested in winning elections. If that means stealing votes... I wonder how much that bothers her?

Why do repubs so rarely complain about a person being wrongfully denied their right to vote, surely this must occur sometimes. speaking of "intellectually honest"

You speak of "perceived irregularities" without providing any evidence that such actually took place.  On the other hand, here is a situation where the possibilities of abuse are laughably transparent.

So the mere allegation by someone of "irregularities" is tantamount to proof, and enough to justify ignoring clearcut cases??      That makes it simple -- all I have to do is holler that "I THINK my vote for [Democrat X] wasn't counted" and that offsets any charges or concerns,  no matter how well founded, on the other side.    How convenient.

BTW, there have been a number of instances where allegations of being deprived of the vote were investigated, and shown to have no merit, yet the allegations themselves continue to be repeated.  (Example - Florida 2000 investigations into supposed voter intimidation of Democrats were examined -- and note that the board had a majority of Democrats-- and NONE of them was substantiated.    Yet the mythologists of that election, as the later ones of Ohio 2004, continue to repeat their stories as if proven.)

I would hardly call them

I would hardly call them "myths" when prominent statisticians and former GOP operatives are coming forward and admitting the truth.  Stephen Spoonamore has as much credibility as anyone.  As for Ohio, this book sets the factual record straight.

To claim that no voting irregularities took place but some kind of massive voter fraud is taking place instead is ignorance at best, total intellecutal dishonesty at worst.

Why do repubs so rarely  complain about a person being wrongfully denied their right to vote, surely this must occur sometimes.   If there are some documented cases of widespead (or even isolated voter fraud)  I'd like the links to see them. I think as many people as possible should vote early - to discover and have time to clear up whatever challenges occur when they go to cast their ballot.

Ummm. I did

Note my last paragraph. Why is the Democratic Secretary of State denying Republican absentee ballot applications but not Democratic?

Because she is a dishonest partisan crook.

Why are you defending a dishonest partisan crook?

Yes you are right why supress the "vote".

It's the latest--and boldest--move by a major media company to capitalize on America's some 6.1 million undergrads. While outlets such as Viacom's (nyse: VIA - news - people ) MTVU network and privately owned Zilo Networks have gone after university students for years, Palestra's at the front of a new wave led by news outlets desperate to connect with young viewers.

OH SoS rejecting election observers

This should not have happened. But I guess people have different take on this matter. The voting process should not be taken for granted. Vigilance should be observed at all times. In a college paper report, I've read that the fraud starts in small ways. I just hope people should not forget their responsibility to vote. Thanks for this article I can write my college paper with more confidence now. My topic is samples of voter fraud.
