Palin: Hockey mom and married to steelworker

I learned two things from watching Sarah Palin.

First she is a hockey mom. That plpays in New Hampshire, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Second, her husband is a member of the Steelworkers' union. That plays in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

no longer flabbergasted as Palin appears

as a politically smart, very likeable choice. Bring on the debate about change and reforms needed.  My hopes have been raised for a terrific fall campaign that could be very good for the country. Also naively hoping this is a sign chararacter smears will be decrease this cycle.

But she's just a beauty queen with a thin resume, don't ya know

Let the character smears begin - attacking a gorgeous, accomplished, woman whose leadership is well established will really backfire on sites like this one in addition to MYDD, KOS, HuffPo, etc.  I say....let the games begin, because the Left is going to lose this one Big Time.

I learned the following about

I learned the following about Sarah Palin:

1. Sarah Palin ruled her small town Wasilla with an iron fist.

2. She asked her town librarian if the library "could live with censorship of library books.

3. Palin is staunchly anti-abortion and has a Down Syndrome child to prove it

4. The Hockey rink she built in Wasilla required raising taxes and sinking the town in debt

5. Palin fired the Wasilla police chief because he was trying to clean up drinking and concealed weapons in the town

Any questions?

Palin in Wisconsin

I could easily see Palin getting along with hunters, fishermen, and their wives in Western Wisconsin. But I need to see McCain catching up to Obama in the state polls to think Palin could matter. (Not that I think VPs are that important.)

Creationist!

The woman is a creationist!  Who could possibly consider voting for someone that ignorant?  I'm shocked at this terrible choice.

I'm sure your friends at Starbucks and the Sushi Bar

are shocked as well.  Drive through the heartland some time instead of flying over it and you'll see a different demographic.  It's the Left's intolerance of different ideas that are the real problem in this country.  I don't believe in Creationism, but I certainly don't have a problem with someone who does.

Wait until Stanley Kurtz gets completes his work in the stacks over at Annenberg, then we'll see another definition of ignorance:  the ignorance of everyone who's fallen for the corrupt Chicago-style machine politics of Barack Obama and Wiliam Ayers that defrauded the Annenberg Foundation and Illinois taxpayers out of $100 million.  Pfffft.

I'm fine with people who believe in it

Though I seriously question their ability to look past their preconceptions and look at evidence.

The good thing about Palin is that I didn't see her pushing that they teach it in school, merely that it was her belief. That was a positive aspect.

Edit: Also, what's wrong with Starbucks and sushi bars?

What's wrong with Starbucks and Sushi Bars?

Actually, I happen to be a big fan of both!  I turned the phrase to indicate people (both liberal and conservative) on the East and Left Coasts who are more likely to be fans of Starbucks and sushi and less likely to be fans of Sarah Palin, rather than people in, say, Louisville TN or Bean Blossom, IN.

I will say, though, that it's sad to see Starbucks going into an economic decline that requires closure of its stores and elimination of matching 401K donations.  Thankfully they're still able to employ many people even with the cutbacks, though, and I certainly wish them well.  As for sushi, I understand that Jeremy Piven may no longer be such a fan - of tuna, at least.  Like many deep water fish, it seems to be so laden with mercury that it's caused him great toxic distress.  I'm usually a fan of Fox News, but when I watched Megan Kelly assassinate Piven's character solely on her ignorant theory that there is no such thing as mercury poisoning and Piven was simply "not happy performing his role in Speed the Plow on Broadway", I decided to limit my Fox News intake to Cavuto, Wall Street Journa Editorial Report and Special Report and skip the idiotic drama mongering in between.  I recommend sticking with California Roll, or any other combination that uses salmon instead of Ahi.  Salmon contains the lowest levels of mercury of most ocean fish.

Mr Palin is a Union man!?!

Fascinating that Todd Palin, native American, is in a union.

The Liberals are playing up that he works for the oil company and that means this is "BP picked the VP" pick. This would backfire if Todd Palin is a working stiff and not an oil executive.

Is Todd Palin a 'working man' or a 'suit'?

I am thinking all the typical liberal stereotypes are going to backfire like a big exploding cigar.

Also, is Sarah Palin catholic or protestant?

Unions and churches

Sarah is an evangelical protestant, active in church, and her husband is a working stiff, but at project manager level, when he isn't commercial fishing. So middle management.

They won't have a prayer trying to paint him as big oil.

Steelworker...

1) Alaska's self proclaimed "First Dude" no longer works in the oil industry, having given up that job when Mrs. "Hockey Mom" became governor. 2) I don't know what his job was but I do know that middle management doesn't belong to the union. 3) the "First Dude"  is a working spouse these days but he is not a commercial fisherman as reported-he runs the family salmon hatchery. Honorable work? Absolutely. Rough and tough fisherman? Hardly.
