Poll Shows Public Sides With Palin Over Letterman

Cape Republican has been posting non-stop his opinion on how he views the battle is going politically for the governor from Alaska and David Letterman.  Yet he keeps on asserting his opinion as the truth and seems to imply that his opinion is representative of what the public thinks about this dispute between Governor Palin and David Letterman.  Well, we now have scientific polling that provides evidence that Cape Republican's opinion is just that....an opinion and one that has been rejected by a majority of Americans if you look at the following scientific poll objectively.

Look specifically for the change in Letterman's numbers among women, independents, and Republicans.  The following were David Letterman's favorables/unfavorables from a poll conducted on May 29-30.

Here is a blog entry from Robert Schlesinger talking about the poll results:

Poll Shows Public Sides With Palin Over LettermanBy Robert Schlesingerhttp://www.usnews.com/blogs/robert-schlesinger/2009/06/16/poll-shows-public-sides-with-palin-over-letterman.html

A new Rasmussen poll puts solid numbers around Sarah Palin’s victory over David Letterman. According to the survey, nearly two thirds of Americans (64 percent) say that late-night comedians should not target the children of politicians with jokes. (Letterman’s approval rating dropped from 49 percent last month to 41 percent this month, raising the question: Since when do we track the approval rating of late-night talk show hosts?) Of course, that solid majority didn’t seem terribly upset last fall when then-pregnant teen Bristol Palin was the target of never-ending late-night jokes from Letterman and his ilk. Maybe they meant to tell Rasmussen that pols’ children shouldn’t be the target of unfunny jokes?

My guess is that some of you will try to claim that Rasmussen is biased in favor of Republicans (laughable considering that Rasmussen pretty much nailed the 2004 and 2008 presidential election national polling) but upon an objective analysis of the scientific data, rather than opinion, I'll side with Schlesinger in declaring a victory for Governor Palin.

I'm sure that Cape Republican

(with an unnatural obsession for defending DL) simply will not be able to fathom how 2/3rd's of Americans would side with the victim of Letterman's offensive jokes.

He has apologized, Palin has accepted the apology, and now it is over. a few nutty protesters (apparently 30 at the most) have tried to keep the story alive.

What Palinphobes like Cape Republican do not understand, is that if they really thought she was stupid and incompetent, they would ignore her. The very fact that someone would write five blogs about how Laetterman was right and Palin was wrong (even though it wasn't Palin that made the offensive jokes) shows that Cape Republican is really afraid of Palin.

It is hilarious and I have enjoyed watching the left twist themselves into knots over this. Please post another blog about this CR!

Conservative blogs and Fox tell a different story.

He has apologized, Palin has accepted the apology, and now it is over. a few nutty protesters (apparently 30 at the most) have tried to keep the story alive.

Sarah Palin, a joke, and the fury of a Fox Nation by Jed Lewison

Wed Jun 17, 2009 at 08:50:06 AM PDT

Hey, did hear the one about where a late-night comic told an off-color joke and the Fox Nation decided to build an entire campaign around it (despite two apologies)?

(Note that all of these video clips were from Tuesday morning and early afternoon.)

When this is the best thing they got going, they ain't got nothing going. Time to get back to teabagging.

So you respond to scientific polling

with a link to a guy citing his opinion?

You cannot beat scientific data with opinion.  You are better off accussing Rasmussen of being in the tank, a common strategy pursued by liberals.

You are a troll

That response was to Bill, adressing a specific comment.

Its over

DL lost. Palin won. Get over it.

Or seek counseling.

Palinphobia has consumed you.

Why not get back to some dot connecting?

she's a vengeful, spiteful arrogant and very small person.

that isn't to say she's not intelligent.

but "sarah baraccuda" is apt. very apt.

Letterman will still be on the air long after voters have told

Letterman has picked up 700K additional viewers since the flap started, going to 3.9 million from 3.2 million.

He will still be on the air long after voters have told Palin "thanks but no thanks" and sent her sorry ass back to Wasilla.

Please, please, please make her the GOP nominee in 2012,

So no response to the poll NRN

Let's see how well Letterman's ratings do the rest of the week now that the controversy is over.

The worse case scenario for Letterman is that women view him as pedophile and he gets beaten by Conan and Leno.

Just look at how his numbers flipped among women (-30 point swing for net) and independents (-32 point swing for net).  Let me guess NRN, Rasmussen is in the tank.  Data is data.

Where are the internals, what did they ask?

Did they ask a specific probing question, like "whose side do you take, Lettermans or Palins?" No, of course not - becasue Rasmussen IS in the tank.

Instead, they tossed up a softball: should commedians tell jokes about politicians childrens?" Very easy to say "No" to that. What a shame they didn't follow it up with "is Sarah Palin blowing this up out of all proportion in order to get more limelight?" But of course they didn't.

Some of the smarter liberals, such as Chris Bowers,

deem her, Pawlenty, and Huckabee as solid opponents for President Obama in 2012.  Unlike yourself, Chris Bowers uses scientific data to arrive at his conclusion, rather than cuss words.

Looking at the 2012 Republican Field

http://www.openleft.com/diary/13599/looking-at-the-2012-republican-field

Unless someone like Tom Ridge runs, or a relative unknown emerges (which rarely, if ever, happens in Republican nomination campaigns), Huckabee, Palin and Pawlenty strike me as a difficult to separate top three at this point. They are also the only Republican candidates who, as of now, appear to have any chance of defeating President Obama in 2012. All of their chances will depend just as much on the success of the Democratic trifecta in turning around the economy, as it will the performance and effectiveness of their own campaigns.

kos'd put money on Huckabee being the most dangerous

I'm sure. Obama's own targetter (see 538) says Gingrich would be formidable.

approval numbers temporarily dip in a successful smear campaign

There is nothing unusual here. Just goes to prove the concerted nature of the right wing attack machine via blogs, talk radio and Fox and Palin.

Ovbama's approval ratings during Wright controversy, and McCan's and Palin's high approval numbers did not mean that he lost the election. Or that his approval ratings since are less than that of Palin.

In fact, Palin's ski-high approval numbers in Alaska fell to ground level.

Murkowisk beats Palin in AK

The Sky is Falling!!! No, wait. It’s Palin’s Approval Index.

palinindex

Approval Rating: (very positive and somewhat positive)

Murkowski 71.6%     Palin 59.8%

Approval Index: (very positive minus very negative)

Murkowski 25.2      Palin 13.7

I think the numbers tell us who Alaska’s real golden girl is.

Hays Research?

The same pollster that released the following Obama/McCain Alaska poll as its final one?

http://www.haysresearch.com/OC110208.htm

McCain/Palin    46.6%
Undecided - Lean McCain/Palin 1.7%
Obama/Biden  43.9%
Undecided - Lean Obama/Biden 0.7%
Other Candidate 2.0%
Don't Know / Refused 5.1%

Actual Alaska result:

McCain 59.42%

Obama 37.89%

A little bit of a credibility gap after that poll eh?

how do you poll people without telephones?

who don't even know who sarah palin is?

alaska is very very hard to poll. rural vote is nearly impossible.

Palin now ranks 36/50 among governors

Who's the most popular governor in the land? A fairly well-informed observer might guess Jon Hunstman, Jr. of Utah (who won't be a governor for much longer), Charlie Crist of Florida or Sarah Palin of Alaska. Those would all be pretty good guesses, except for Palin, who was once extremely popular in Alaska, but no longer is.

Then there's Palin, who remains more popular than not in Alaska, but has seen her ratings drop very sharply, and has a high expected score because she's the governor of a small, red state. Her power rating of -7 ranks 36th of 50.

Gubernatorial Power Rankings: Crist, Freudenthal Top List

by Nate Silver,

6.03.2009

Silver is getting hilarious

"Expected score" rating?  How about we just stick to what the scientific data actually states than analyzing what you want it to say.

Any response to my post regarding the one poll you used to arrive at your conclusion?  The poll that indicated Obama would somehow finish within five of McCAin in Alaska on election day?

Which is it, foundation?

Within the space of two breaths you've said that one pollster can't be believed because they got the Presidential race wrong, and then you mock Nate Silver, who got the Presidential race as close to exactly right as anyone can get. So, which is it?

he's a stats man...

did you really expect him to just give you raw data???
