National Right to Life to Obama and Reid: You wanted debate? Now you'll get debate

http://www.nrlc.org/AHC/Release112109.html

I am not trying to reduce the statement by only selecting a single link ... the setiment goes across the prolife grassroots community, who are ready with talking points.

Obama and Reid wanted debate – so now they'll get debate, on their cloaked provisions that would cover abortion on demand in proposed new government-run and government-subsidized insurance plans.

Obama and Reid are seeking to block enactment of the bipartisan Stupak-Pitts compromise, adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives on November 7 by a vote of 240-194. This amendment would prevent government funding of elective abortion through the proposed "public option," and would also prevent federal subsidies from paying for private insurance plans that cover elective abortion.

During the weeks ahead, National Right to Life will continue to fight the efforts of President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders to cover abortion on demand in two huge new federal health programs.  The Senate bill faces additional 60-vote hurdles in the future.  Moreover, a courageous group of pro-life Democrats in the House of Representatives will oppose final approval of health care legislation if the Stupak-Pitts Amendment is gutted or removed.

"National Right To Life"

"National Right To Life" doesn't offer anything resembling a real debate; what it offers are lies that health care reform includes abortion funding. No version of health care reform does so, nor has any version ever done so. All carry over the Hyde amendment preventing such funding.

The Stupak-Pitts garbage was created as a poison pill in the process, and aims to prevent any health insurance company taking part in the exchange established by the bill from offering abortion coverage--people with policies from those companies would lose the coverage they currently have, and wouldn't be allowed to purchase such coverage with their own money. The amendment was the work of a long-running "evangelical" fascist cult called the Family, with which several members of congress--including those "courageous" clowns in the House--are involved. It will be stripped from the final bill, and neither the fascists of the Family or "National Right To Life" can't do a damn thing about it.

Remove Government funding of the public option.

The bill funds via taxes  the public option health care. The public option includes

SEC. 1303. SPECIAL RULES. (a) SPECIAL RULES RELATING TO COVERAGE OF ABORTION SERVICES.-- VOLUNTARY CHOICE OF COVERAGE OF ABORTION SERVICES

Drop the public option and funding by tax payer money or change SEC 1303 to

(a) SPECIAL RULES RELATING TO COVERAGE OF ABORTION SERVICES.-- ABORTION SERVICES CAN BE PROVIDED BY DONATIONS BUT NOT FROM TAXES COLLECTED TO PAY FOR HEALTHCARE OR OTHER MONEYS COLLECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE HEALTH SERVICES

Your choice.

SEC. 1303. SPECIAL RULES. (a)

SEC. 1303. SPECIAL RULES. (a) SPECIAL RULES RELATING TO COVERAGE OF ABORTION SERVICES.-- VOLUNTARY CHOICE OF COVERAGE OF ABORTION SERVICES

You're quoting a section of the bill that explicitly forbids any federal funding of abortion, and sets up the rules by which companies participating in the Exchange must segregate any funds for abortion coverage from any federal funds. It goes into some detail on the point, but to know that, you'd have to actually read it, rather than get your information on what it contains from the likes of Rush Limbaugh.

I think you need to have it eminently clear

No dollars that are federal tax dollars, directly or indirectly, are used to pay for abortions and it needs to be totally clear.

The problem with ambiguous language of  is that it does not stand up in court. Reid's compromise does not take Abortion out of Obamacare, It merely suggests that abortion is not covered in documents that it points to.

No place in the bill does it say federal tax dollars will not be used to fund abortion. If in your opinion they are not going to fight to have federal tax dollars pay for abortion then it will be a short debate.

What ever happened to the great GOP talking

point of not having the government interfere in the relationship between patient and doctor?

In one Word "Malpractice"

nt

Taxpayers subsidize abortions now

Employers get to deduct the cost of employee insurance whether or not that insurance covers abortions.  That amounts to a taxpayer subsidy of abortions.

Interesting debate but

Who's money was it? not the tax payers. Nobody forced the person to buy that plan. But I would agree it is not a procedure that we should provide a tax deduction for ... It is a very good talking point - there may be many.

I digress considering the other debate over allowing churches to have tax deduction status taken away if they exercise freedom of speech. And Planned Parenthood being a 501 organization who takes donations for abortion that is consider a charity. It makes for an interesting talking point.

Medicare does fund abortion.

Also FYI to be perfectly clear abortion is expanded in Reid-Care

Beginning on line 7, p. 118, section 1303 under “Voluntary Choice of Coverage of Abortion Services” the Health and Human Services Secretary is given the authority to determine when abortion is allowed under the government-run health plan.  Leader Reid’s plan also requires that at least one insurance plan offered in the Exchange covers abortions (line 13, p. 120).
